the yellow overall aspect could have been nice, but something bothers me in the reflects on the plate (light was too hard?). It makes the white balance look wrong where it's not the problem.

jseligman (J Seligman) added a critique 1 year ago:

For me the whole minimal idea is very appealing, and I like the angle of the face. However, the eye color looks very unnatural and makes the photo look cheap and a little weird.

jsmanseau added a critique 1 year ago:

I like the angle of the face, however I would do a bit less with the processing on the eyes especially. Maybe see a bit more of the face next time?

Sher (Sher Hilliard) added a critique 1 year ago:

I differ from everyone else who has commented. I think this is great. I like the subject, the processing, the vivid colors. I enjoy photos that 'dare to be different' and I think you've done a great job. Very nice photo.

Do you have some other versions of this
AWESOME take on 'portrait of a person'?
I would be interested to see the steps
you took to get this image.

psychodudu (Andrew Parker) added a critique 1 year ago:

Black an White might be also interesting to see, it may give it a more dramatic look.

very interesting. unique perspective.

beckn32 (Kim Norton) added a critique 1 year ago:

I really like the different take here and this has a great perspective. It does need a little more light on the face itself though to bring it out more than the background. Now it tends to blend in too much.

chasewhittemore (Chase Whittemore) said 1 year ago:

When I first worked the image I cropped the guys face out and made it its own layer. Then I gave it some more light while making the BG darker. But it kept getting washed out so I ended up only being able to do this a little bit.

SnowScan (Peter Hestbæk) added a critique 1 year ago:

A bit more light on the face/eyes and I also miss a clear focus point. I like the crop.

jodosh (Johnny Haddock) added a critique 1 year ago:

love the shot, and I agree with what has been said already, I also think that possibly a tad (really just a touch) less DOF to blur the bg might help out.

HDR?

xavtek (Xavier Rotivel) said 1 year ago:

I didn't used HDR for that one.
It's a combination of several layers and high pass filters to add some density to the shadows without losing details.

awesome-great capture

xavtek (Xavier Rotivel) said 1 year ago:

Thanks !
Thunder was striking crazy that night, i saw multiple impacts (like a douzen) in the woods, so i took my camera and try to catch a lightning. Exposure is 4s long

Paulforrester (Paul Forrester) said 1 year ago:

that makes it even better-4 seconds-wow-i have tried to catch lightning-but have been nowhere near as succesful as you in this capture!

bbonner (Bonner Photographic) said 1 year ago:

Very nice image. I would suggest re-framing the image to remove the building on the right. It is a very heavy element that doesn't have an equal balance in the rest of the image. Capturing lighting is AWESOME!

I agree with schupin - lovely shot but the foreground is a bit too dark.

AndreiMorar (Andrei Morar) added a critique 1 year ago:

Love the low horizon.

If you shot RAW try maybe to recover some of the details lost in the foreground plants. It should be fairly easy.

Otherwise great shot.

xavtek (Xavier Rotivel) said 1 year ago:

I actually always shoot my pics RAW. I really did my best to improve the foreground, but if i go further, noise is getting too bad. I find it ok on my screen (calibrated) but it's true it appears too dark on most other screens i tested. I didn't figured it was an issue. Nevermind, and thanks for your comments :D.

Jenseye (Jen) added a critique 1 year ago:

I find the whole photo very nice...I like the composition and I don't fine the foreground too dark at all.

kt_still added a critique 1 year ago:

The foreground adds to the contrast of the shot in a very nice way. Brings ones eye to the sky. lovely.

gregcsmith (Greg Smith) added a critique 1 year ago:

Agreed, a bit too dark. This may have worked better in Landscape with less of the dark clounds at the top and allowing more light in the middle.

Sher (Sher Hilliard) added a critique 1 year ago:

Agree as well that its a bit too dark. Hard to figure out what I'm looking at.

charmarie (Char) added a critique 1 year ago:

Definately too dark and seems a bit grainy.

Heath (Heath Carney) added a critique 1 year ago:

I think this would have worked better in a landscape orientation, with the bright area right across the middle of the frame and an even amount of silhouette and clouds at the bottom and top.

xavtek (Xavier Rotivel) added a critique 1 year ago:

I like the portrait orientation, but as many other, i find the picture too dark and it lacks of details a lot.

It's an interesting cloud formation - I like the capture..

manickavelu (velu) added a critique 1 year ago:

interesting capture. very painterly.

i believe that spot is sensor dust. I've seen one too many of those!

xavtek (Xavier Rotivel) added a critique 1 year ago:

I don't know why the big cloud make me think of a giant whale of smoke.... There is a lot of movement in that cloud...

jsmanseau added a critique 1 year ago:

Great capture! nice shot and colors

birba (Roberto Pagani) added a critique 1 year ago:

The shape of the cloud is funny. It remember me a sperm whale

ahutchison (Alan Hutchison) said 1 year ago:

Fantastic - although I'm not sure if the image would actually be better without the hull of the boat showing?

karim2k (Ben Abdallah Abdel Karim) said 1 year ago:

Nice work, with the front edge of the boat !

xavtek (Xavier Rotivel) said 1 year ago:

Thank you for your kind comments, it's nice to have a pic featured among such great works here.

I think the pic works for me thanks to the hull of the boat, because it reminds me of the memories on this lake.
