this may be random...but I like the background!!
jvgphoto (jon van gilder) added a critique 8 months ago:
Hi Amy,
While the composition is good, it's a little uninteresting, in my opinion. It just kind of sits there. The colors are ok but not exciting - and the light is good...but not great. As a result, the overall effect is kind of bland - not a bad shot, but not a great shot for the reasons given above.
Best to you,
Jon
MMeye added a critique 8 months ago:
I do agree with Jon.
Moreover, the whole pic is out of focus.
Amy, be careful with the distance when you intend to make a macro shot : you probably were too close of your subject, and the camera could not focus correctly on the keys.
warreagle (Amy Warr) said 8 months ago:
Jon and MMeye, thanks for your input. I am learning a lot about macro technique.

Pradeep (Pradeep P) added a critique 8 months ago:
Amy, the area in focus is a bit too close to the top border. I would suggest a deeper dof and maybe rearrange your keys to form a better composition.
chefron (Ron Ernst) added a critique 8 months ago:
I agrr with Pradeep, image needs a little more work.
warreagle (Amy Warr) said 8 months ago:
Thank you Pradeep. I couldn't figure out exactly what i was doing wrong. Which of course is why I put it up for critique :)

I like the idea becuase I am a fan of macro, but you should try the same pic at different angles.

Me gusta mucho la composición, el encuadre y los colores, además del motivo. Un ventilador oxidado puede dar mucho juego!!!

@turkana: muchas gracias!

it took me a bit to figure out what this was from the thumbnail. after larger view of course, it was quite clear. i like to composition but am not sure about the background color (behind the fan). however, as far as rust, it's an excellent example.

Yes, colours here are well seen, Amy. I also love the detail of the withered leaf in the bottom right of frame.
Pradeep (Pradeep P) added a critique 8 months ago:
I dont know if its my monitor...but there is some strange pattern between the stem and the leaf, looks like jpg artifact...or is it coz of the light?
warreagle (Amy Warr) said 8 months ago:
I see what you are talking about Pradeep, I think it is an artifact, not sure though...will have to look at the original again.

I really like how you can see the dew on this one!

Beamer (Clyde Beamer) added a critique 11 months ago:
The image just kinda all runs together, mostly because of the similar hues. Did you try this in B&W with some curves work to pull out the building from the background??? Also, there is too much foreground, which is not adding anything. The handy scroll bar tester says crop just above the whitish line running slightly up hill to the right. This gives a more pleasing framing to me.
warreagle (Amy Warr) said 11 months ago:
thanks for the ideas...have not tried it in b&w. will do that.
lightholder (Kimberly Lightholder) added a critique 11 months ago:
I like the colours in this, but I agree, it needs a bit of seperation. You might consider a closer crop to help bring the focus to the building.
In addition, if you can re-shoot, maybe try lowering the camera angle to give the building a bit more perspective against the trees... :)
warreagle (Amy Warr) said 11 months ago:
thanks. i can reshoot--this is what's left of a greenhouse the previous owners had in my parents' backyard...they been in the house about 9 years now.
jvgphoto (jon van gilder) added a critique 9 months ago:
Just misses - great color and feel to this shot, but the composition is awkward and the trees growing out of the structure are really a distraction.
Best,
Jon

I'm sorry, I feel this is over exposed and hard to look at, but I admire your attempt. I've tried to take shots using the car mirrors and it's tough to get a good shot.
warreagle (Amy Warr) said 11 months ago:
thanks this is just a point and shoot, i noticed the sunset and had to try :)
lightholder (Kimberly Lightholder) added a critique 11 months ago:
It does appear a bit blown, but that's just life. :) I might consider cropping it into more of a panaromaic shape to balance the subject a bit more.

thank you for your idea!

This is not bad - tone it down a little and you have a winner!

I love the bicycle...but it is a bit blurry, hard to see the lovely details it holds.
willie_901 (william) added a critique 1 year ago:
Sharpness cam be over rated. The blurriness works for me. What doesn't work is the blown out window. To fix this would require radically different lighting or multiple exposures. There seems to be a great deal of chromatic abberation. Perhaps this is intentional. I can't make up my mind as to whether this image is brlliant or mediocre. I always enjoy a good mystery!
warreagle (Amy Warr) said 1 year ago:
thanks for the comments...took this on a tour of a castle that was more like a museum so I didn't really have much say in the lighting and such....but I like the old bike.
Rainybeet (John Bonner) added a critique 1 year ago:
I think that the table poking through the wheel is distracting, and the placement of the wheel right in the middle of the frame is a bit bland. It is really hard to take pictures when your vantage point is chosen for you. I think you did a great job under the circumstances.
jvgphoto (jon van gilder) added a critique 9 months ago:
A little soft - just misses being a great shot!

with a little tweaking. :)
Jessa added a critique 11 months ago:
there's a lot going on in this picture. The first thing I would do would be to crop it along the bottom. I think if you remove that green leafy plant and fencing in the bottom it would help a lot.
Also you might try to darken up some of the midtones to make the white moss pop out and make the backlighting more pronounced.
hope it helps

I like the shot, but there is a lot going on here. I agree with Tammy that you should have cropped it.

Love this. Might suggest a bit of level adjustment to bring out the white moss a bit more, but lovely otherwise.

I do enjoy this. My only criticism is the blue is distracting and out of focus.
