It feels out of focus as a whole, but I do love the contrast in color :) Great capture!

Dark and broody, has a nice somber feel to it. I like that. The suggestion I would make is to crop about 5% off the bottom and about 15% off the top to create a more panoramic composition. The upper part of the sky gains you nothing. The wider compo would tend to add to the mood by accentuating the vastness of the scene.

thanks for the input. I have a couple others from the same time posted with a panoramic crop. Just didn't put them up for critiques yet

The colors are very interesting, I agree with Beamer on the cropping suggestion!!! Very cool photo!

boyd added a critique 3 days ago:

Yes Amy, you certainly nailed the colours in this one. Agree with the above comments. Well done.

High key, well I guess. Just looks like you washed out the tonal range of this. Doesn't really create a mood for me. It's ok to have contrast in "high key" images, I think. Especially if you look at the ones featured here.

boyd added a critique 3 days ago:

I think that the treatment you have used here is quite effective because the shapes of the main subject are very strong. I cannot decide, however, if the fence on the right adds to or detracts from the overall balance. I'm figuring it adds, because if it wasn't there the tree would be a bit too centred. I like this experimenting.

a cool place to be, but i don't like the composition very much. another angle would be better.

Loving these contradicting comments...goes to show some things are a matter of opinion!! thanks for the input!!

It is a little blurry for me, but it looks like a very relaxing place to sit.

Hi,

Nice shot - the comp is a little static, i think - colors and overall feel of the shot is pretty good - the area in the rear of the photo is somewhat darker than it needs to be. Nice effort.

Best,
Jon

i'd prefer focus on benches
it's very lovely & peacefull like this
maybe less grass at first plan ?
anyway exactly what i need right now "peace" :D

i'd crop the white thing at top left ...

très original ce portrait en mode panoramique. j'aime beaucoup

narnold (Noah Arnold) added a critique 1 month ago:

very interesting photo, I like the colors of the photo, it's a little fuzzy though. Gives off a very mysterious feel. Very cool idea to post a "self portrait" but not let anyone know what you look like ;)

Beamer (Clyde Beamer) added a critique 1 month ago:

Well, this is certainly different!! Since you asked: it is a little soft overall and if I was going to crop something this close to symmetrical in a framing this tight I believe I would straighten it so that the hat and glasses are straighter and more symmetrical.

meyli added a critique 24 days ago:

Too fuzzy for me. It misses a sharp point for fixing the eyes. The reflect on the sunglasses is interesting.

This photo makes me think of the movie "Far & Away" when they must race for their plot of land -- nothing but blue skies and a land open to possibilities.

Yes, I could make a home there.

it does kinda look like that doesn't it? This is a little ways down the road from my house, it was so beautiful the other day when i was driving i had to get a shot of it.

je trouve pas ce panoramique tres lisible. j'ai du mal avec cette photo

op_perrin (Olivier Perrin) added a critique 1 month ago:

je suis sur que ta photo en plus grand, doit être plus facilement lisible, c'est dommage que pour les panoramiques on ne puisse pas mettre des photos plus grandes, car avec la compression on perd beaucoup sur les panoramiques.

Beamer (Clyde Beamer) added a critique 1 month ago:

I think this is just too dark to hold much interest/impact. This type of sky and light is very tough to get good exposures. I usually shoot brackets when it's overcast like this.

boyd added a critique 1 month ago:

Colours really kick here! I like the sweep of the fence and the fact that it is the same colour as the dominant trunk in the background. This adds to a wonderful set from this location. Well done, Amy.

i dont like there is no relief, no sun light, it's flavorless

warreagle (Amy Warr) said 1 month ago:

there was no sunlight that day, all cloudy

Beamer (Clyde Beamer) added a critique 1 month ago:

This is a very nice subject, nice composition. The overall softness is disappointing, especially in the foreground fence rails. This reminds me of home, lots of fences like this where I grew up in Virginia.

Great idea, but it looks a bit blurry.

AmberDawn (Amber Sullivan) added a critique 1 month ago:

The greens are so pretty, I love barn photos. It is a bit blurry, and I would maybe try to get the camera lower and more of the barn detail.

narnold (Noah Arnold) added a critique 1 month ago:

I love the contrast of the rusty roof and bright greens! I don't know of anything that can be added to whatever is already said, great photo overall!!

Beamer (Clyde Beamer) added a critique 1 month ago:

Very pretty scene. Nicely captured. I would have cropped the top and bottom just a bit to create a little more scope and to loose the bit of sky in the upper left.

that's not a link. it just read it that way

GarrettHall (Garrett Hall) added a critique 1 month ago:

Since this is your first attempt, I would say this is a success! It might have been more interesting if the fence stayed in the frame... a little more foreground and less clouds. That would give you a nice balance of near, mid, and far. It might also improve the photos impact if you pulled some drama out of the clouds by adding contrast. Good first attempt, though. Keep at it.

snaps (Dana N) added a critique 1 month ago:

Agree with G about the contrast in the clouds, but love the format. Great subject for it.

boyd added a critique 1 month ago:

Yes, Amy, I also agree that you would have to count this as a success. I like the colours and the sweep of the mountains (hills??) that you have framed within the image. Well done.
