Very nice abstract. Great soft colors.

Thanks for the comments everyone. For those that are wondering it's a motion blur of a canola field (and sky) on a summer evening.

I like this shot alot espically the soft purplish, pink color in the bottom corner. The screen adds a really cool effect.
lorissa (Lorissa Shepstone) added a critique 1 year ago:
i really like the tones here and the effect of the screen itself (a little moody and mysterious). i do find the framing of the screen off though which is a tad distracting. there is more to the right than the left and i find myself wanting to nudge it over to the right a bit.
that being said, we do only see the bottom part of the screen frame and i actually quite like that. it seems to "open up" the top of the image nicely - suiting the idea of "opening up" into the sky.

makes you want to know more...
I like things being off-centre. too much neatness can be dull.

The mesh is really nice and give this an interesting feel to it. I don't particularly like the right hand side, which is the dark edge of the window (or door)?

Poor little thing looks like it's about to drop dead. I just want to cuddle it...
uncommondepth (Roberta Murray) said 1 year ago:
Thanks for the comments. @Andrew - this little bird is just fine. It lives most of its life in the Arctic and only comes south to our location in the winter if it's a bad winter. So whenever we see the flocks of Redpolls we know it's going to be a long, cold winter here.

Not sure where that description comes from but my understanding of it is "main tones lighter than middle gray, with smaller areas of secondary tones darker than middle gray; or soft, but bright lighting that eliminates harsh shadows". In your description a portrait would require light or pale tones in the eyes, because aren't the eyes usually the focus, or main subject, in a portrait? And that would look pretty ridiculous wouldn't it?
Beamer (Clyde Beamer) said 1 year ago:
That description came form this website in the description of THIS Topic... Only quoting what we were told when the Topic began as a guideline for submissions. Where did your quote come from?
I really meant my first statement, I don't fully understand and am only trying to learn...
uncommondepth (Roberta Murray) said 1 year ago:
I think it's just the nuances of language that are creating the confusion here. I went and read the full description that Tanja wrote "concentrate on the lighter tones, using subject matter that is white or pale tones, and using flat overall lighting to avoid shadows...give it a try!" The key in that sentence is avoiding shadows.
Anyhow, do a search and you will probably find loads of information on the subject. My description was not quoted from anyone, just stating my understanding.
