I agree with cutting the outer bars. At the moment there are too many and it makes the picture too white. The light on the web is really beautiful and the green behind it makes a nice background.

Nice bokeh, nice light, but weak compostion, in my opinion. Interesting subject, but could be a much stronger photo with a little more work.
Best,
Jon

This photo is one of the best photos in this topic! Brilliant use of DOF.

It is really catching eye photo. Brilliant DOF. I will also turn it 90 degrees.

lots of detail, great framing of field and sky, nice sight lines - well done

Normally I would think the tone mapping (i presume?) was a bit too much, but with this subject I think it works really well..
Love the view and angle here..
bluesforshoes (Jeremiah Gilbert) added a critique 1 year ago:
Wonderful angle. I agree with Brandon that it might be a little too over-processed, or at least looks like it. Also, it's a bit too much of the same grey for me. That said, it still is a striking photo.

Very cool shot, nice clearity and colour. Good DOF.

Through its unreality, this shot conveys something of the magic of the game of baseball - very special image!

I personally wouldn't worry about the horizon - it looks like they're on a bit of a slope anyway. I looked straight at their faces so didn't notice the blown-out highlights immediately, but now everyone else has mentioned them...
beckn32 (Kim Norton) added a critique 1 year ago:
I really enjoy how you've "blown" out the highlights since to me, it really makes me focus on their faces. I'm constantly drawn to what is (after much concentration) the left girls shoe in the air. It's distracting and looks a little out of place with the processing.
mva1985 (Chris Grant) said 1 year ago:
Kim, Thanks for the comment. I never really paid that much attention to the shoe but I think you have a good point.

Great shot - even with the blown highlights! Thanks for sharing.

I like this pic, but I've got a problem with the "empty right part". Shot a little bit more to the left could be better for me

this works great as a b&w, cool shot

I fully agree with eli here!
Bastian (Bastian Löhrer) added a critique 1 year ago:
@simonlloyd, moeview
This topic is named "long exposure" and long exposures typically result in floating water looking like on the image. Looking like being frozen
I like the scene itself, but the composition is not the best, and these twigs on the left are distracting. Turning the camera more to the right so the person is in the left third and these branches can't be seen any more would improve the image a lot.
jvgphoto (jon van gilder) added a critique 8 months ago:
Interesting, but a little static. Nice grayscale, but the photo lacks pop.
Best,
Jon

I like the composition with the cluster of bright edged leaves to the left, balanced by the darker area to the right.
Perhaps if you applied some selective sharpening to the area around large drop and petal...?
Naturespixel (Leisa Hennessy) added a critique 1 year ago:
nothing seems to be in perfect focus :(...
maybe try a different angle.. try getting down low you maybe able to get some reflection in the drops.. or try a tighter crop?? i am in love with teh colours tho :)

problems with focus
average 'oh what a nice flower' shot
dcannaday added a critique 1 year ago:
I like this shot. Although I think it could use some sharpening on the petals.
jvgphoto (jon van gilder) added a critique 8 months ago:
Such pretty colors and a good composition. If only it were sharper!

Thanks everyone - a short blurb on this shot:
This was taken on the Otter Crest Loop Road, outside of (you guessed it...) Otter Crest (near Depoe Bay) on the Oregon Coast. It was one of those classic Pacific coast days where the sun was out strong while there was fog trying to roll in from the ocean. The loop road is maybe 2 miles long and I must have pulled over and started shooting 5 times along the way. The conditions lasted all of 30 minutes - right time/right place. You get lucky sometimes.

Wow, very nice. With the angle of the shot and the light through the trees, it's like witnessing a UFO landing! Ominous.

have to agree: more sharpness and a bit more contrast would have been nice. but it's a fine shot - not easy to take.

TheAntipodes (Menno van Zaanen) added a critique 1 year ago:
This is nice indeed. I wonder what the halo over his head is. Is that from the background? or is it reflection from some glass? (It looks a bit like that to me). I really like the colours though.
Sonoma added a critique 11 months ago:
Nice shot. Color is a little drab, bit I didn't have an issue with the sharpness. Nice.
I really like the idea here. I'd try cropping out the two end bars and selective sharpening the web to make it more the focal point ans see how that looks. Right now the bars demand a lot of your attention when it's the web that really is the subject of interest.
The background bokeh is good - soft with just enough definition.
