I started photography with a film point and shoot many years ago and then moved on to film SLRs with a entry-level Minolta and then the Canon EOS 650 mainly on travel subjects.

My interest waned somewhat until my daughter's interest in digital photography rekindled my interest after our trip to China in 2006 when I was using her second camera, a fairly high resolution Pentax point and shoot (the 750Z, IIRC).

So this year I plunged headlong into the digital format with a Canon EOS 400D re-using my humble EF 28-70 f/3.5-4.5 II stock lens. Since then the lens bag content has increased by three more lenses which I used in my recent travel to the UK and Ireland.

I am now happily retired from work ("doing the important rather than the urgent" to quote de Bono). My professional background was in Health Physics and the development of radioisotope techniques in animal physiology, not much related to photography but I was also interested in art in the form of life drawing which I dabbled in for a decade or so. I think this contact with (and continuing interest in) the visual arts has helped in the aesthetic aspects of photography but I certainly have much to learn on the technical and purely photographic aspects that the professionals and serious amateurs demonstrate with such facility and skill.

I enjoy the challenge format with its given theme and have recently joined the open ones on the Net.
