it's interesting you mention the number of pieces. i think you're right that odd numbers have some sort of more natural quality perhaps?? there's something for me that is in interesting tension about having the even number though precisely because it's so structured - and the backdrop soft, organic, etc. worth exploring and thanks for the comment.

Yes, I forgot to ask if the marker setup was specifically because this was a classic move in the game you are depicting. If it is, then this picture would provide interest on multiple levels...

It's really working well for this theme I think. This picture is about light and shadow in more way than just the obvious one with this game of black and white.
Really like the texture and the dof.

I like the framing of this photo, especially the balance in the horizons as well as obliquely. I wonder if using an odd number of markers would create more interest - I remember reading somewhere that the eye finds odd numbers more interesting.
