Did you try just the boy and the flag?

Thanks, eveeryone. This was the Battle of Hurricane, West Virginia.

Usually I can't stand selective color, but your choice here is excellent! The image gives a sense of time & memories not to be forgotten with the color representing now and the b&w the past. The b&w areas also appear slightly blurred adding to the effect. I really like this one!

I was just rating in the Selective Saturation topic and this image really jumped out from the group. Unfortunately it was only offered as a choice for me one time. I was happy to see it already featured though.
This is really a strong image to begin with, but the selective saturation really adds that extra bit of punch. Thanks for posting it.

Es muy bonita la composición. Es difícil saber qué elemento capta más la atención, si el agua o el color de las hojas.

Great shot, lots of punch. I agree with other however that the colours may be a little too strong. Also, is it just me that thinks the building is leaning forward slightly? It might benefit from a very minor straighten.

Thanks, all, for your insightful remarks.

This is very artistic, like by the hand of a painter. However, I agree with the others, that if you are going to take that road, then you must really apply the same feel (or processing) to the whole image. I'm not a great admirer of this sort of image, although I do love a good abstract. This kind of falls between the cracks for me, it's neither one nor the other. That said, you do some truly great stuff, Ron.

Roberta, I just received my copy of Michael Orton's Creative Landscapes. He was just mythology to me before I had contact with you. He's a real, breathing, living person with a great creative vision. Thanks for your tip in the forum!

You're welcome. I think he's required reading for anyone that's ready to take photography to another level. So is Freeman Patterson's Photo Impressionism and Photography and the Art of Seeing (and all his books really).

The house was centered on purpose to contribute to it's sense of isolation.
Ron this is an absolutely fabulous photo. Your use of selective saturation here is spot-on. I can sense the action and movement along with the mood. Really very nice work!
