the red i think is so much saturated, and i would preferred the sky in B&W too, not only the red in the chimney, is even on the faces of the people and it seems so unreal, but i like the overall effect.

Sher (Sher Hilliard) added a critique 1 year ago:

Lovely work with selective saturation Jo. Somehow the entirety of the photo is too "busy" for me. The sky or the buildings would have made a great photo all by themselves. All together my eye wanders from grass, to buildings, to sky, to brilliant yellows and never is quite sure where to settle.

tony (Tony Hall) added a critique 1 year ago:

An amazing looking place - I presume it's by the sea with some pleasant views in the other direction?
Overall a startling effect - the yellow (umbrellas) drags the eye into the frame from the right, the blue (sky) is glimpsed, the buildings with the balconies momentarily catch the imagination 'what's the view like?', the dabs of red (chimney, people) distract - why red, why these objects, what's the relationship?
The questions begin. What's the significance of the yellow? How do you envisage this photograph being used? Is photography just about aesthetics?
But, look at the sky, those clouds, what a wonderful day. Wouldn't it be lovely to be just sitting outside looking into the distance.

mosesport (Moses) added a critique 1 year ago:

I agree it seems very hard for me to focus on one thing. My eyes are pulled all over the place. A great shot nonetheless. The clouds are awesome!

joka (Johannes Kapp) added a critique 1 year ago:

the whole pic is a little bit turbulent.
But: nice scene, good processing!

Nicely done, Sher.

Sher (Sher Hilliard) said 1 year ago:

Thanks Ron. Can you tell by "the look" she was only tolerating me? ;)

Paulforrester (Paul Forrester) said 1 year ago:

she looks like she was just barely tolerating you-nice shot!

Hi Ron, good to have you come by. These are fishing boats down in Dungeness. We were down there for a few days last year, great land/seascape and light.
Thanks for the welcome. I've been sitting outside the backdoor for a while watching the world go by. Thought I'd pop in after Odon had left a comment on this 'old' pic.

tuscanice (Jo) said 1 year ago:

Such an awesome perspective. The clouds give this a nice sureal feel. Excellent:)

tony (Tony Hall) said 1 year ago:

Hi Jo, thanks for that. The clouds were unusually dramatic that October day.

odon (Odon Dias) said 1 year ago:

Pushing the little boat away, a nomad or gipsy soul. And I'm singing road to nowhere, again. I wonder where all this will leads. Hope that not so far from the finish point.

tony (Tony Hall) said 1 year ago:

Hi Odon, maybe you wonder where you are ...
it's time to find something, but don't look too far.

I laughed my pants off when I saw the original, Vern. Nicely seen, my friend. I just learned a big lesson. Thank you!!!

VernonTrent (Vernon Trent) said 1 year ago:

a big lesson?
which one, andrew? :-)

psychodudu (Andrew Parker) said 1 year ago:

In spotting a good motif, Vern. Not everyone has that in-born ability, some people have to be taught how to use their eyes and their minds...
Here, you have provided a little lesson in how to do just that! So again, I say, thank you!

great composition. I think a little more contrast will be better

Sher (Sher Hilliard) said 1 year ago:

Very nice..i also would like a bit more contrast...but great composition...good work

ronjones (Ron Jones) said 1 year ago:

Perfect in every way. Increasing the contrast would, I feel, destroy the mist and the excellent mood you have captured.

lovely as it is, wonderful detail on the forefront... nice foil to the softness of the background
