I agree that the dof and shades are very effective here. The composition might work differently if a square crop was applied. However, this shot does have a very nice feel the way it is.

Nice clear shot of the flower. Would have liked to have seen more of it though. Nicely done.

nice DOF and depth of the shades, just not sure if it was necessary to crop the picture..
