La luz frontal y el contraste juegan a favor de la mirada y la sonrisa, aunque creo que se impone la primera sobre la segunda. Bien captada. Enhorabuena. Saludos

photo24 (Sven H.) added a critique 9 months ago:

nice pose. assuming you shoot digital: maybe you want to work on the bw conversion. seems too much red channel.

jvgphoto (jon van gilder) added a critique 9 months ago:

Very simple but effective portrait of this young woman. The lighting is a little flat.

Best,
Jon

LeStro added a critique 7 months ago:

I like the pose and her expression. I also think you did a good job with the composition. I do agree with jvgphoto, as her hand is brighter than her face, and a little distracting. But I still think it is a very nice photo.

This photo has a classic feel, and the light works very well. Without the light it wouldn't have the right feel to it... nicely done!

I love it. The simplicity of it makes it beautiful. Almost has a negative image feel to it. Seen many ice storms up close and personal and this makes a beautiful photo.

pouhou (Tony LUJIEN) added a critique 11 months ago:

Prime I thought it was a negative because of the contrast between the sky the main branchs and the thin branchs I was wrong.
So I like the usage of negative space that increase the minimalisme of this picture

trphoto (Tony Rath) added a critique 11 months ago:

Could use a little more contrast, and maybe a little more of the tree

photo24 (Sven H.) added a critique 11 months ago:

simplicity.yes.
but the color and dull tone.no
;-)

jvgphoto (jon van gilder) added a critique 8 months ago:

Very nice work and wonderful use of negative space with a negative image - just kidding. Well seen and well done!

Best,
Jon

zero added a critique 11 months ago:

It's a little bit over exposed but I like it!

photo24 (Sven H.) added a critique 11 months ago:

disturbing and attractive/interesting at the same time. the blown out whites adds to it.

jvgphoto (jon van gilder) added a critique 8 months ago:

Good attempt, but doesn't quite get there. The subject is too centered and the blown highlights don't help this shot. I know what you were going for, but this one doesn't quite make it.

Best,
Jon

Very nice composition.
Really makes everything pop out!

sebrundage (Stephen B) added a critique 9 months ago:

This is really well done. I actually like the slight blur of the train - gives a sense of action. The clouds really pop and create a nice contrast to the lines of the buildings.

Jordan (Jordan Young) added a critique 9 months ago:

Looks great, a few spots jumped out at me as abnormal however. There's a thin glow around the roof of the building that looks strange, and the building seems too dark around the top. I also agree that the sky at the top of them image is a bit too dark, it doesn't look too natural or convincing. Overall though, this is a great image with tons of potential. Composition is perfect.

All the best,
Jordan

Amazing sky!!! madre de Dios!!! Everything move me to the sky, so I think You have too much on earth. The focus could be different? Really fantastic work!!!

Agree with all the positive comments above. I also like the light here with no shadows etc, it looks like the walkers have justs been dropped in from another scene. Composition works well with the strong diagonal almost dividing the two "worlds".

JeBeKe (Jan Verbeke) added a critique 9 months ago:

I full agree with boyd. The strong diagonal was also what struck me.

CraigMartin (Craig Martin) said 9 months ago:

Thanks for the comments everyone! I found them very helpful. I wish I could say that the strong diagonal separating them was planned, but it was entirely fortuitous!

yes, good timing. well balanced bw. if I could have a wish: let the right guy look right into the camera.cheers

Love this shot, tells so much a couple sharing there day, The gentleman appears so alone. The picture tells so much with a black @ white perspective :) Keep the shutter clicken :)

interesting composition, city scenes !
major: blur (at least one thing should be sharp)
minor: some kind of color cast ?

Bastian (Bastian Löhrer) said 1 year ago:

Thanks for all the comments.
Yeah it's a shot on film. I agree on the lack of sharpness and also think the contrast should be greater.

I'm mainly interested on your opinions about the composition and subject choice.

klear added a critique 1 year ago:

great composition that really gives the feel of the city. Like it a lot

PhotoDaniels (Stephanie Daniels) added a critique 1 year ago:

I really like this! I agree with the blur, though. I wish the walk sign was more in focus. Maybe a little more contrast but I really like it as it is, too. I wish the sign was either more centered or more off-centered. To me, it's almost either way and I can't tell which way it's going. I would definately buy this print, though!

jvgphoto (jon van gilder) added a critique 9 months ago:

Super composition - very well seen!

What a rush to be in the right place at the right time. This light is every photog's dream. This almost looks like a painting. Very nice. Is this a collapsed building?

Very, Very nice!
Great framing. Love the touch of color.

AnaGaztelu (Ana Gaztelu) added a critique 9 months ago:

Me gusta la toma y el toque de color pero me distrae el suelo con sus dibujos geométricos.
Creo que resultaría mas impactante si el interior fuera totalmente sombrío.

In English:
I like the taking and the color touch but distracts the ground to me with its geometric drawings. I believe that it would be but impressive if the interior were totally shady. Greetings

photo24 (Sven H.) added a critique 9 months ago:

the image is striking enough in bw. the randomly applied re-coloring doesnt create impact. working with curves: I would reduce black values, means the dark areas become black, and increase middle tones, would create striking contrast and viewer dont see the floor but focus on the message by creating a silhouette.my2cents

Beamer (Clyde Beamer) added a critique 10 months ago:

For me, this isn't "crunchy" enough to really have a "dark, brooding, and/or grim feel". he big culprit is the foreground. Even if you got that really dark and contrasted it might still be too big. So I guess I'm saying more contrast and a tighter framing, bottom and right. Very good choice of subject, I think this could really work, just work it up again and re-post, and we'll see...

antonio (antonio) added a critique 10 months ago:

good focusing and dof, well done!!

jvgphoto (jon van gilder) added a critique 10 months ago:

I like this, but it lacks punch imho. I like the dof, but the foreground is a bit much - I agree with Beamer - a little cropping and some added contrast might help considerably.

photo24 (Sven H.) added a critique 10 months ago:

can imagine what you try to achieve. i like the topic. but the "frame" is not good and the bw could be more striking, even with very hard contrasts. cheers

photoaholic (Geoffrey Reynertz) added a critique 9 months ago:

this is a good shot, a great use of dof it's not your picture it is the subject that is not "noir" enough
