Great HDR, just the right amount without going over the top!

op_perrin (Olivier Perrin) said 3 months ago:

superbe, et j'aime l'homme tout en bas au centre de ta photo, cela donne une grande dimension a ta photo.

HuubL said 2 months ago:

Beautiful city scape. Another example that dark skies make much more interesting pictures that stark blue spotless skies. I like the extra light on the center of the square.

Jessa added a critique 4 months ago:

I might have played with the DOF to separate the boy from the background a little more or perhaps cloned out the hand and white glob that looks like it's growing out of his head. I think the colors and comp are right, maybe play with the levels some if I were nitpicking.

boyd added a critique 4 months ago:

I agree with Jessa that there is a lot to like with this shot, and some things to work on. I love the subject's expressive eyes. I wonder if the composition would have worked better if the boy was leaning more into the window (perhaps with arm up on the ledge) to also give a little separation from the background.

pfeel (Phil Verges) said 4 months ago:

Thanks, guys, I appreciate it.
boyd, this was taken in Burma (too bad Vazaar still doesn't accomadate titles or descriptions of images), and I was just glad he didn't run away once I lifted my camera to take his picture. But asking him to change his pose would have been difficult.

Thank you...this is actually two yellow walls with a hallway between, it's just that by taking advantage of the angle it actually gives it a rounded feel. The various shades of yellow came simply from the lighting above.

crahan (Thomas Bouve) added a critique 10 months ago:

I keep coming back to this image to leave a comment, so I guess it does do something to me :). Very abstract. I Would have loved to see it a bit more off center though.

photoaholic (Geoffrey Reynertz) added a critique 10 months ago:

yellow abstract interesting i love it (perhaps just a little bit too centered)

pfeel (Phil Verges) added a critique 9 months ago:

Very intriguing, you have a great eye!
I'm not sure whether I think it's too centered or not, the black line makes all the difference (as Nick says).
If you can go back to this interior, you could shoot it again and experiment with different compositions, maybe even a vertical format?
Also, it might be interesting to catch the silhouette of a person in the distance down the hallway - lots of potential for more great stuff!

i like this shot, the colour is very pleasant much more than if it were white

pfeel (Phil Verges) added a critique 10 months ago:

Great shot!
I agree with Kerri and wonder if lowering the camera all the way to the floor might have helped?
Still a fave, though!

Ana (Ana Cortez) said 10 months ago:

I was up on a hill when I took this shot, and to get lower, I would have had to of gone closer (and traipsed through 2 feet of snow)
:)

MMeye added a critique 10 months ago:

Not an easy subject, however you succeeded rather well. Would I have added more contrast ?.. I'm not even sure. A nice one, Tammy !

mrsmorunion (Tammy Runion) said 10 months ago:

Thank you for all of your comments. This was kind of a strange photo op. I took this from inside my car very close up. The shadow at the bottom was the top of a tree.

pete (Pete) added a critique 10 months ago:

very cool idea.. well done :)

I'm not good a critiques,but I love those (ice feathers!)Thanks for sharing.

pfeel (Phil Verges) added a critique 9 months ago:

Very beautiful macro, love it!
Maybe a little added contrast would help (as MMeye suggests)? But then again, I like the subtleness of the tones.
I might play with adding a little bit of a vignette to keep the viewer's eye longer in the frame, since there is no main subject. It could also help to hide the shadow at the bottom.

KidJim (Jean Marc Veliscek) added a critique 10 months ago:

Interesting image, I like it - I like the engaging lines made by the path and continuation with open sky, really draws you in the image. The forest on both sides adds mystery.the b&w is fine.
I think Nick's recommendation regarding the crop is great !
like opening a wider door in your image..

pfeel (Phil Verges) added a critique 10 months ago:

I like it! B&W was definitely the right choice here, it makes much more graphic impact. And I agree with Nick, I would crop it higher also.

crahan (Thomas Bouve) added a critique 10 months ago:

I agree with Nick with regard to the higher crop. If you crop it so the path appears to go on outside of the image it would be better.

Also try to clone out the little branch in the sky. With those two edits I think you would have a perfect image. The sky and the path complement each other perfectly. Good composition though and nice black and white conversion!
Thomas

selaux (Sarah) added a critique 10 months ago:

i disagree with the crop idea. I think that letting me see the start of the path makes me even more curious to see where and how far it goes. I feel like its a metaphor for the start of a great journey and i dont know where it is taking me or how long it will last. B&W is very effective. Nice work.

grahambo (Graham Siebe) added a critique 9 months ago:

I agree with Nick too. The little bit of dirt at the bottom draws my eye out of the picture.

It might be interesting to crop it down so the horizon is in the middle of the photo. It would put more emphasis on the lines going to infinity.

Beamer (Clyde Beamer) added a critique 10 months ago:

Very pretty, great shot. I you had moved the camera about 4 inches higher, the top rail would separate from itself near the top of the image where it turns the corner. That's the only part that bothers me, now they are just tangent to each other and almost touch.

jvgphoto (jon van gilder) added a critique 10 months ago:

Gorgeous color and lighting - nice composition. Thanks for sharing.

Best,
Jon

pfeel (Phil Verges) said 10 months ago:

Thanks all for the fice critiques!

Beamer, I see what you mean. The thing is, I kind of like that fact, it gives it somewhat of a "trompe l'oeil" feel - meaning, you can't really tell which rail is receeding or coming forward.

I do value the feedback, though, because I wasn't really thinking about those to lines being tangent.

pfeel (Phil Verges) said 10 months ago:

oops, I meant to say "those two lines being tangent."

mrsmorunion (Tammy Runion) added a critique 9 months ago:

I love this photo! The colors are great, the composition is wonderful and so is the lighting. It just goes to show that anything can be beautiful in the right eye!

Nick (Nick) added a critique 10 months ago:

I love paths to the beach. Nice shadows.

pfeel (Phil Verges) added a critique 10 months ago:

Nice concept and idea.
I would probably make the line of the path/grass a little lower, along the top 1/3 of the image. If there's more of the path at the bottom, you could show more of it by using a wider angle lens. It looks like it might be veering off to our left, but that's not necessarily bad. Experiment with different angles, too, maybe getting low to the ground would make for more impact.
Unfortunately, the image is also a little grainy. Maybe it's been oversharpened?

Finally, I like the choice of B&W.

nattfodd (Alexandre Buisse) added a critique 10 months ago:

Nice image, but I feel the composition would be a lot stronger without the inferior third, and a bit more off-centre.

jvgphoto (jon van gilder) added a critique 10 months ago:

Boyd,

Works for me as is - certainly, there is wisdom in the above comments - but, you've got a good and strong photo here.

Best,
