AngryBuddha (Sean Bailey) added a critique 1 year ago:

Very dramatic and nicely done.

odon (Odon Dias) said 1 year ago:

Hi, Sean. Thank you. I think about a series with this theme.

nfds (Notes From Different Spots) added a critique 1 year ago:

This image looks like a screenshot from a nex-gen computer game. Looks like state of the art three dimensional graphics, that's fantastic! Hard to believe it's a toy. You've dome some good job!

Neuner added a critique 1 year ago:

I agree with Tony. I'd like the crop only if there was an archnemesis or barbie doll toy in the background to give it some story. Otherwise I think it is good.

odon (Odon Dias) said 1 year ago:

Thank you so very much, nfds and Neuner.
I did the shot before the story. Now, the road is open to create some scripts.
Thanks, again.

Thank you, Johannes. A new building will be constructed in that space. I take a photo of the old building some time ago:

tony (Tony Hall) added a critique 1 year ago:

a neat bunch of layers, decay behind decay.

annabc (Anna Cameron) added a critique 1 year ago:

Very good example of the rule of thirds, both horizontally and vertically. Full range of tones and excellent detail. The horizontals and verticals make a very strong frame and the grafitti add some curves and diagonals. It makes a very interesting abstract and a good record shot as well. Excellently seen and captured!
I'd be very interested to see it in the Selective Saturation topic as well, with those old bricks subtly re-coloured red!

odon (Odon Dias) said 1 year ago:

@Tony: Thank you so much, Tony.
@annabc: Wow! Such a nice critique, looks like you had notticed all the details inside the picture. Thank you so very much for the beautiful comment. I will try a version with the bricks in red, cool idea! Thanks, again.

Nice lines, nice depth, nice lighting, nice reflections, I like this.

tony (Tony Hall) added a critique 1 year ago:

On reflection a good pic .. but another 'element' in the reflection could bring a dimension to the image that might suggest more than a 'simple' reflection. It seems this fascinating structure might lend itself to more possibilities!

Hi, everyone. This is a version softly processed of the same previous image uploaded on this topic. It looks very close to the original image, despite the original was a black and white picture.

byutanner (Jason Tanner) added a critique 1 year ago:

Definitely an interesting subject. This version IMO is much better. I'd try to desaturate teh color some so its more subtle not dominating. But great location.

tuscanice (Jo) added a critique 1 year ago:

The image itself is fantastic as is your processing. Personally I would give it more of a sepia look...Instead of the yellow, a nice rich red/brown color. Well done:)

AngryBuddha (Sean Bailey) added a critique 1 year ago:

I like the image itself, but I agree with Jo about the yellow.

odon (Odon Dias) said 1 year ago:

@byutanner: Hi, Jason. Thanks, I did the original shot in black and white, just with natural light. The contrast was strong, maybe resulting in saturation.
@tuscanice: Hi, Jo. Thank you, I think that if I had made the original in sepia was far more simple. But sometimes I don't like the original sepia tones from the camera. Too brown.
@AngryBuddha: Hi, Sean. Oh, thanks. For all that I have notticed in old photographs, some vintage pictures get unexpected colors and tones, most of the time.

chaba (David Chabashvili) added a critique 1 year ago:

very over processed..though I see lots of interesting details on the shot that might have made a good picture

anke-art (Anke Arnold) added a critique 1 year ago:

Hi Odon,
as David says, it looks quite over-processed. I like the colors and the contrast, but it would be nicer if it was softer.

mysight (Carl H. Sr.) added a critique 1 year ago:

Wow,this is such a cool place.
Reminds me of my grandfather.
Do you have the original photo.
I would like to see 360 degrees from this spot!
I want to know more about it.

odon (Odon Dias) said 1 year ago:

Thank you all for the nice comments! Well, maybe this is a new category, called "vintage over-processed", don't? ;-) Ok. Serious, now. I have the original photo, and a black and white version, with the story, be seen at:
www.flickr.com/photos/odonbd/517746793
I think that I will post the original very softly processed, then. 8-)
Thanks again for comments to David, Anke and Carl.
I appreciate the feedback.

Sher (Sher Hilliard) added a critique 1 year ago:

I find the bright spot on the lower left of the photo a bit distracting but the composition in my opinion is very nice. Good work!

odon (Odon Dias) said 1 year ago:

Thanks for the nice comment, Sher. The brigth spot is probably a sun ray reflecting. 8-)

grayphotog added a critique 1 year ago:

I guess that glare softens the image on that side quite a bit. I like how the camera is dark but your face is low contrast, but the glare (and softening it causes) is a downer. Ideally you would be low contrast but sharp (as on the right side of your head). The tree doesn't add anything for me, and it's too bad the tree is so dark because it competes for attention. Maybe dodging the tree would help that.

odon (Odon Dias) said 1 year ago:

Thanks for the comment, grayphotog.

apoc (Andrew Goloida) added a critique 1 year ago:

i think its a little overexposed around the edges of the shell.

odon (Odon Dias) said 1 year ago:

Yes, the contour is shining. I just had decided do not disturbe the living being that was sleeping inside the shell (or something like) to put it in the rigth position. ;-) Thanks for comment.

BSurprised (Behrooz) added a critique 1 year ago:

Great colors and details. But I don't like the position of the subject.

VernonTrent (Vernon Trent) added a critique 1 year ago:

@bsurprised
what is wrong with the position?

@odon
I guess you have used a macro lens for this shot?
perhaps a flatter angle to the object would have given more DOF effect.
the compositon is ok for a macro shot as it has a documentary touch as well. you should boost the mids and try to give more contrast to it, so the shel would be more on focus.

cheers
v.t.

odon (Odon Dias) said 1 year ago:

@BSurprised: Well, thanks for the comment. That shell was scaling a wall and had stopped for a nap. It's not on the ground.
@VernonTrent: Thank you so much for the hints. I like that part about the documentary touch. Yes, I was experimenting a new set of lens.

joka (Johannes Kapp) added a critique 1 year ago:

interesting light,
perhaps I would prefer another cut, to arrange the vertical lines on the right side rigorous like on the left side

joka (Johannes Kapp) added a critique 1 year ago:

add: my eyes follows the balance of the geometric structure

odon (Odon Dias) said 1 year ago:

Thanks joka, for the nice comments.

grayphotog added a critique 1 year ago:

I like it and think you should keep experimenting. I'm tempted to say go in closer and/or bring the whole frame into focus. What if you stepped way back and shot this with a 200mm lens to make it flat and abstract?

odon (Odon Dias) said 1 year ago:

Thank you so much, grayphotog. I have made a version with only the vertical lines that results in a picture more or less like you said, due to the wind. Thanks again for comment and hints.

The title for the photo could be "Dry Roots".

silenzioso (alberto) added a critique 1 year ago:

great composition... I'm not sure of noise..

gregcsmith (Greg Smith) added a critique 1 year ago:

I agree. A bit noisy. There seems to be a bit of green in there somehwere, would like to see more of it.

odon (Odon Dias) said 1 year ago:

Thanks, Alberto and Greg. I think that the picture get a noise effect when I resize it for the 600x398 dimensions. The original is better but too large.
