I wouldn't shoot from a low angle. It's convenient to hold, but probably not your most flattering side. You might want to use a tripod and a remote switch. IMHO the hardest part of a self-portrait is getting the eyes sharp because you can't look through the viewer to focus on them. Keep trying, though.

I've never done any self-photgraphs so I wasn't very sure how to frame it...suggestions are greatly appreciated!!
