Stunning...powerful... I love it in B&W. I agree that it does show the wild cat inside a domestic. beautiful

from the thumbnail i thought it was a wild cat. nice capture

How did you make the cat sit still and not sniff at the lens or something? Great shot.

I like this picture very much!! the shadows and the black and white make this a terrific portrait of this young man :)

Great details! and I love his expression, almost seems candid.

The B&W really make this picture...great job!

Very nice portrait. Nice relaxed pose for this young man. Good tonal value, although I would have printed it a bit darker and cropped a bit from the right. Nice job.

Is this a silver based b&w negative?? Because ICE is know not to work at all for b&w negatives. The only b&w negatives that can be cleaned with ICE are the C-41 process, dye based negatives, I thought?? When I try to force ICE on with my Nikon Coolscan and then scan a TriX or FP4 negative the results are totally useless.
Bastian (Bastian Löhrer) said 19 days ago:
Oh yeah I didn't think about that, yeah, this isn't a real B/W negative. It's one of those Kodak fake B/W negatives which are regularly processed C-41.
Interesting that ICE doesn't work with real B/W negatives, thanks for the information.

boyd added a critique 13 days ago:
Gee, I get hammered for having *real* grain evident in scans of FP4 and HP5 and then this!! The problem (if you can call it that) is C41 b&w negs tend to have very smooth tonal range, making it very difficult to fake the vintage look. I like the perspective you have of the subject, but there are just too many inconsistencies to be convincing in a vintage sense because it is too polished (and why does a hair or some other dirt on a neg - shown as a white line - skip the dark bridge????).
Bastian (Bastian Löhrer) said 13 days ago:
Yeah I see what you mean, and I agree, but considering it's small age of 3 years I'd say this negative looks pretty vintage :)

I agree with the above comments - I think cropping out the first two rows of boats could possible help you out a little bit, mainly to get rid of the tree on the upper left corner. I do like your color and the boats themselves are very interesting!
oz_sprog (Will Williams) added a critique 1 month ago:
I agree with Beamer, maybe crop out the green bits but otherwise the framing is really well done, great job :)
mooch said 1 month ago:
Well, the tree is has always been in the way. I don't know, if I crop the top two rows of boats I'm concerned that the balance of the image will be lost. Don't get me wrong the tree is a little annoying as it ruins the flow.
boyd added a critique 30 days ago:
This is a really interesting shot, mooch, and I think that I like it better overall than your other one of the same subject. It is funny though, the branch, wall and particularly the reflection of the sky between the boats tends to make this lose its tight "fill the frame" feeling for me. These other elements seem to give the impression of a really empty scene (albeit in a frame that is full - if you know what I mean). I think that it is a wonderful image, well done.

Excellent job this. What a capture. On the flip side needs a 2 cm crop at the bottom. Try it and this is a masterpiece.

the crop works well. Not sure about the desaturation, but the crop really helps the shot.

This a very nice composition, great subject. I think it is a little flat, needs a little "punch" in the tonal range, imo.
Smooch added a critique 16 days ago:
I agree with Clyde. Nice composition and subject. It does need a bit of a punch in the tonal range, if possible. I would have cropped just above the bottom concrete pad. It's a little distracting to me. Purely subjective though. Well seen and captured. Concrete is hard to photograph, especially the shadows. It's hard to separate the noise from the texture sometimes.

OK, you can't wrap it around a leaf, maybe a branch... Way too early in the morn to be typing accurately!

Great exposure level, the light levels are well balanced too.

Olegslayer added a critique 28 days ago:
I would say that this is an amazing photo, but the only thing that is distracting is the blown out leaf in the center. I am surprised at how clearly this shot came out considering the circumstances, but I feel like you can get away with the top leaves being slightly overexposed, but the leaf in the center is a bit distracting and almost noisy.
paddlepunk (Holger Neu) added a critique 16 days ago:
okey it isnt easy to make good water photos, but i think it should have been longer or shorter exposed. longer to make it smoother, and shorter to make the water clearer, i think this would look the best, if the water would look clearer

Careful Beamer. I think the last time I told someone something wasn't a macro, I was banished or something similar.

The lines of the horizon and shore, along with the subject being slightly off centered really makes for a good composition.

I find this very nice, but still lacking somehow. The subject is great, the lighting is great. I think it may be the composition that bothers me. I think you may have included too much. I just did a scroll bar crop to loose the whole curve space at the left and about half of the dark shape, it seem then to hold more interest for me?? Is this the natural color, or is this a sepia treatment. This might look better as a strong tonal range B&W.
narnold (Noah Arnold) said 1 month ago:
Amy and Mike: Thanks!!
Beamer: I see what you are saying, I will play with some crops and try to repost this again. This is sepia so I will try B&W as well, thanks for your suggestions!

I agree with the above comments. I also like your use of dof here where you have resisted going too shallow, but have good depth through the length of the strings. The toning works well for me. Nicely done.
Bastian (Bastian Löhrer) added a critique 23 days ago:
Very pleasing
I also agree with Tamara that this is a very strong shot and your use of focus and framing works very well. I also like that you have used high key exposure to very good effect. Well done.
