I agree with the above comments - I think cropping out the first two rows of boats could possible help you out a little bit, mainly to get rid of the tree on the upper left corner. I do like your color and the boats themselves are very interesting!

oz_sprog (Will Williams) added a critique 1 month ago:

I agree with Beamer, maybe crop out the green bits but otherwise the framing is really well done, great job :)

mooch said 1 month ago:

Well, the tree is has always been in the way. I don't know, if I crop the top two rows of boats I'm concerned that the balance of the image will be lost. Don't get me wrong the tree is a little annoying as it ruins the flow.

boyd added a critique 30 days ago:

This is a really interesting shot, mooch, and I think that I like it better overall than your other one of the same subject. It is funny though, the branch, wall and particularly the reflection of the sky between the boats tends to make this lose its tight "fill the frame" feeling for me. These other elements seem to give the impression of a really empty scene (albeit in a frame that is full - if you know what I mean). I think that it is a wonderful image, well done.

Excellent job this. What a capture. On the flip side needs a 2 cm crop at the bottom. Try it and this is a masterpiece.

I didn't notice the green until it was mentioned. Now that I notice it I really like it. It brings out abstract to the repetition. Good job!

mooch said 1 month ago:

Mike, I have entered a similar shot to this in "Fill the Frame". Thanks for the heads up!

Thanks for the comments everyone. I enjoyed shooting these quaint boats, pretty unique to Britain.

sanders (Marc Sanders) added a critique 1 month ago:

I too like the overall pattern and yet the boats are still recognizable. Makes me switch back and forth from focus on the patterns to focus on the indivdual boats. MCS

boyd added a critique 1 month ago:

I also think that this is a very strong image, mooch. I also like the way that the chain across the centre of the frame adds interest and gives your eye something to follow from boat to boat to... Well done.

I love the lines in this photograph, and i do also like the patches of green peeking through the boats on the upper right. i wouldn't change a thing. nice shot.

I'm pretty sure this image is straight, it may not feel like it and I understand that may be more important. The spirit levels on my tripod head were level and straight. The houses have straight verticals and the bit of brighter beach that you can see near the left edge of the shot is straight. I will check the hi-res again tonight. Thanks all for the comments.

Nice golden glow. I like the arc of the water and the reflection.

Great subtle gradients to this shot. I like images like this. Subtle yet powerful.

A strongly contrasting shot. Did you dodge and burn at all to accentuate the contrast?

Beamer thanks for the suggestion.
Had not even noticed it when i put it up.

juanantonio,

Thanks for the kind comment.

Cracking colours and composition here, Mike. I like the silhouetted trees in the foreground, but the light does seem odd once someone points it out. Well done nonetheless.

mooch added a critique 1 month ago:

The colour coupled with the texture is magnificent. I might have removed the signpost bottom right just for that organic continuity but otherwise lovely.

mikeock (Mike Adams) said 1 month ago:

Mooch that is the general idea of what needs done.
I may re post with the lamp gone but have yet to get so far.

charcoal (Christie LaMountain) added a critique 1 month ago:

wow really beautiful color!
i would try cropping from the top
taking the lamppost out would be nice

Good idea, especially the composition and shallow DOF. It's hard to choose between color and b&w, but I think I like the b&w more. I love the reflections of the black keys!

Only minus imo: the reflection on the wooden board. I don't know for sure, but maybe a polarisation filter can prevent that (I'm experimenting with different kinds of filters myself at the moment).

erinelizzybeth (Erin) added a critique 2 months ago:

Great picture. I like the B&W, but i think i like the colour better.

ApurvaMadia (Apurva Madia) added a critique 2 months ago:

This is a wonderful image. In my opinion would be even better if 2 cm from the top is cropped out.

jvgphoto (jon van gilder) added a critique 2 months ago:

For me the color wins hands down - very beautiful work on this photo.

Cheers,
Jon

charcoal (Christie LaMountain) added a critique 1 month ago:

i also like the color one better but the white balance seems to be slightly off (too much blue)
i like the reflection in the keys
i also agree that you should try to crop out the top

Ludimaginary (Richard Vantielcke) said 1 month ago:

Okay so let me explain this photograph :

For a long time, I have planned a serie on video games, then I discovered the work of Philip Toledano with his Video gamers serie (www.mrtoledano.com/frame_videogamers.php)... and then I scream :)

Eventually, I decide to do it anyway... In art, everything is a copy of a copy of a copy...
For this selfportrait, I tried to show how a video game you play affects you. In that particular example, how the game WipeoutHD literally hypnotizes you, almost absorbs you in the screen.

Beamer (Clyde Beamer) added a critique 1 month ago:

Yep, he pretty much scooped you here. His are nice and very stark. I like the reflections in this guy's glasses and the bit of context we get from the back wall.

boyd added a critique 1 month ago:

Love the expression and the composition. It is nice also Richard that you give a bit of commentary to "place" your art. Well done.

mooch added a critique 1 month ago:

I like this, a funny shot, perhaps a little burnt out on the eye area which could be rectified by PS but I do like the expression, it conveys your message well!

I really like the color and detail you've captured. Being very picky here but it seems like the photo is rotated lust a little bit, but that might be because of the all the curves, I can't quite figure it out but the photo doesn't feel exactly straight! That is the only critique I can give, otherwise great photo!

Neuner said 1 month ago:

Thanks! I agree about it not being straight. This is the interior of a state capitol and the center of the floor is blocked off by ropes to protect the original state seal which is embedded in the floor. I was leaning over trying to get as center as I could but it wasn't enough.

Bastian (Bastian Löhrer) added a critique 1 month ago:

I like the image and I really hate to say this, but the blueish flare around the window in the very bottom isn't so nice.
Other than that good job!

mooch added a critique 1 month ago:

I most like the colours to this. I'm also curious, you seem to get little distortion but i presume that you used a wide angle. This is magnificent.

Beamer (Clyde Beamer) added a critique 1 month ago:

I think you did pretty well here. I generally don't like borders and this one is not symmetrical. The tonal range feels a little thin, maybe a bit of "punch" would help here.
