I really want a touch more contrast on this great shot to make it pop!

mikeock (Mike Adams) said 7 months ago:

Ryan thanks for the comment.
This was straight from the cam.
That is a really good idea!

Beamer (Clyde Beamer) added a critique 7 months ago:

You guys are right, this needs a bit of "punch". Just a little work in curves will make this so much better. I'd be interested in seeing a color version of this in another Topic...?

mikeock (Mike Adams) said 7 months ago:

Clyde,
Sadly shot in B&W only.
The theme for my work photo club is signs of spring. I wanted to stand out a bit and need to practice my B&W so it was shot in B&W!

Great capture, My moon shots never look as good.

narnold (Noah Arnold) added a critique 8 months ago:

awesome photo...i'm like koo88, I can never seem to get great moon shots!! Good job!!

mikeock (Mike Adams) said 8 months ago:

Thank you all for your comments.
This was actually a test to see where my camera gave me the clearest results for the moon.
This was actually 5 seconds @ iso 200 with 248mm lens.

shivahuja (shiv ahuja) added a critique 7 months ago:

doest work for me,it seems heavily cropped so there's some amounts of pixelation...

warreagle (Amy Warr) added a critique 8 months ago:

Maybe a closer zoom or tighter crop would help? There's too much backstop fence for me. I do like the way you've stopped the ball in motion though!

mikeock (Mike Adams) said 7 months ago:

Thanks for the comment warreagle!

This is actually a pretty tight crop from the original. The next shoot I am going to, I will elbow my way up closer if need be to get better shots!

Straight from the camera.
The mountain in the background is the bogus basin ski resort...

narnold (Noah Arnold) added a critique 8 months ago:

Mike, I really like the composition in this photo! I like the green of the tree in contrast to the blue of the sky!

mikeock (Mike Adams) said 8 months ago:

narnold,

thanks for the kind comment.
It was the one picture that stood out from this shoot!

boyd added a critique 8 months ago:

I also like the colours in this shot and the detail in the trunk that you have managed to capture deep in the shadows. I an not sure that the sharpness/focus is a crisp as I would have liked in the leaves etc, it is almost focused on the mountains in the background. Regardless, it is a strong shot, well done.

mikeock (Mike Adams) said 8 months ago:

boyd,
the focus does seem a but strange on second look.
This had to do with using a tele-converter on the Point and shoot camera.
Thanks for the comment!

Great to hear how to improve this type of image.
Glad for the feedback.
Also glad that you like what you saw in this...
You saw what i saw!

RachelValley (Rachel Valley) added a critique 10 months ago:

I would say that this is more the snapshot of a moment. The differences being the obvious use of flash, the frame in the top right is drawing my eye away, and the stuff on the table and in her lap are diverting attention away from the intended subject...focusing in on the subject allows the viewer to be drawn in to the soul of the person.

mikeock (Mike Adams) said 10 months ago:

RachelValley,

Thanks for your comment.
Greatly apprecieated!

Mike,

Sorry to be so long in commenting on this shot - great capture! I love the circular comp and framing in the middle of the shot - wonderful job with this, and with the exposure.

Best,
Jon

Pradeep (Pradeep P) added a critique 9 months ago:

It’s a very poignant composition. I don’t know about your country, but here in India, the differently abled people are not treated on par with the other people, they don’t have access to most offices, malls, public transport etc. Also currently there is lot of growing awareness towards this issue. This composition is putting it in perspective...congrats.
My only crit is that I think it would look better by cropping a little more to the top, with little of the dark area in the frame.

mikeock (Mike Adams) said 9 months ago:

Pradeep,

That is actually a very interesting point.
In the U.S. there is a federal law, the American's with Disabilities Act, that requires all public buildings and transportation be accessible to the disabled.
More info on that here:
www.usdoj.gov/crt/ada/cguide.htm

Glad you see the feeling here and thanks for the comment!

nattfodd (Alexandre Buisse) added a critique 8 months ago:

This is an interesting composition and a nice way to show contrast in the symbolisms of those two elements. Technically, it feels quite a bit too soft and would benefit from some more contrast, in my opinion. Cropping/cloning out the bottom of the second pillar on the left would also be nice.

narnold (Noah Arnold) added a critique 8 months ago:

vey interesting composition...I like it...good job!

mikeock (Mike Adams) said 8 months ago:

nattfodd,

thanks for your comment!
I was unsure on the removal of the pole, but can understand what you are saying. The reason that it was left, is that the light is actually on that pole so to me it was fitting to leave a bit of it in.

narnold,

Thanks for the comment!

Very moody and atmospheric capture - I like it. Interesting use of space in a photograph to be sure!

Schmidi (Zoltán Schmidt) added a critique 9 months ago:

Nice composition, you're right, it's the Saturn there. One thing that diturbs me, it's the sharpness/focus. Did you use autofocus, or tried to catch it manually?

mikeock (Mike Adams) said 9 months ago:

Schmidi,
I used the auto focus.
There was also a bit of haze which also caused problems with the focus!

koo88 added a critique 9 months ago:

I agree with the focus comments, but it is a hard thing to capture. I tried the other night when there was an eclipse but did not like my results. It is much better then my attempts.

mikeock (Mike Adams) said 9 months ago:

koo88,
Thanks for the comment.
Sorry that your pictures of the eclipse did not turn out.
I really had to try and try to get at least one photo to turn out from that series!
Keep on looking and capturing.
Practice is the only way to get better!

boyd added a critique 9 months ago:

It seems as though some of the heart is truncated at the top, I find this a little troubling. I think that this would have been an interesting shot to use less dof to increase the blur in the background to help focus more on the sign itself. Creative addition to this topic.

mikeock (Mike Adams) said 9 months ago:

Very good point with the heart cut off.
I have one that does the reverse, top there but bottom cut off.
This local is actually in a pretty good spot so i will have to return and try the ideas you suggested!
I will be posting a rework of the one w\ the top of the heart later today.
