I like the light, I like the detail, nice job. I think the flow and lines created by the main subject is so nice that the bit of board showing on the left is distracting. I'm not sure just cropping this image to loose the left would work, seems too restricted when I tried it with the edge my monitor. Did you shoot any other compositions of this? Want I am thinking of would be with the camera about 2 inches to the left and the spicket and board a little more centered.

Clyde,
thanks for the useful comment.
I do have other angles but none of them have the detail that this shot has. I was thinking of re-shooting it this weekend and now have motivation.

i like this shot but imo, it could be better if sharper in the bottom

Beamer,
Very cool. Since i have started this series of shots, I have seen more and more inspiring images such as yours!

Maravillosa, aunque podamos hablar eternamente de si el encuadre, la luna... creo que lo más importante es las sensaciones que genera, y a mi me genera mucho. Un trabajo fantástico.
RRRRRRRR

jorgelopez,
Thank you very much for your comment.
I agree with you, the moon is the most important thing!
CEG added a critique 6 months ago:
Nice shot. The moon seems fluid-like, bleeding into the night clouds. Excellent lighting.

CEG,

lasiate,
Thanks for the comment.
Exposure is really tricky with these and it look drastically different depending on the monitor that you are using!

shivahuja,
thanks for the comment.
My reasoning behind this shot is that I am working on photos for my brother in Japan that would remind him and his wife of home.
I thought an old general store would be quite fitting, but as with any topic, it is open to interpretation.
I appreciate your comment and what you are saying and agree that with a stronger focal point it would really bring this shot together. Maybe i should re-shoot!

Mike,
Crop out the stuff on the far right for starters - you'll get a stronger shot almost immediately.
Best,
Jon
mikeock (Mike Adams) said 7 months ago:
Jon,
I was contemplating the crop for a while.
I will have to post another crop!
willie_901 (william) added a critique 7 months ago:
Fantastic.
The exposure is fine. Why blow out the highlights?
I too think a crop would help. I can't count how many times I've said to myself, "Why didn't you look at the frame for just a few seconds more?"
I enjoyed the detail too.

Ryan,
Yeah i am not using the greatest scanner so i am dealing with what it gives me.
this actually is a crop from the original!
The bottom was 3x longer before!
Pradeep (Pradeep P) added a critique 7 months ago:
Great composition Mike. I guess its blown on the lower left. I bet this would look fantastic in B&W.
Cheers :)
mikeock (Mike Adams) said 7 months ago:
Pradeep,
Thanks for the comment.
This was shot on kodak BW400CN film so it is B&W.
IT is processed in c41 chemical so it may have a tint to it due to the print.
jvgphoto (jon van gilder) added a critique 7 months ago:
Mike,
Not having seen the original, I still bet this is a much stronger shot with a crop right up to the bottom of the stairs - nice work.
Best,
Jon

Thanks for the comment Jon.
Jon and all who suggested a different crop, you can go here: vazaar.com/user:mikeock/photos/id:27771/
Hello Mike, it is difficult to comment on this image. Indeed, that is sad and unhappy, for that the topic chooses seems just obviously. Concerning the photographic technique, that seems good. DoF shorter, perhaps, would have made it possible to make the background less present (I am not sure considering the distance reduced from the subject and the background)
It seems to me that the square format would not be justified, and even penalizes your image.
As much nature is beautiful, as much it can be cruel to weakest. Greetings.
