this shot was taken in a garden & what you see in the background is a set of out-of-focus flowers. shooting it with a Nikkor 200 macro at a wide aperture really isolates the background & lets the foreground stand out.

Oh wow it looks like an illustration almost. I really love the smokey background whether it was Photoshopped in or not, it works really well to draw your eye to the subject.
