hehe,
perhaps gimp has forgot to convert some areas? :)
I like it as it is. with the rust, which makes it authentic.

cheguillaume (Pierre-Yves cheguillaume) said 1 year ago:

Thanks Vernon. I'll check with another soft for b&w conversion.

manickavelu (velu) added a critique 1 year ago:

i like it the way it is. The hint if rust adds to the quality of the image I think.

An awesome image, that fits exaclty into the categorie. I am sorry, but I can not tell you how to fix it, since I think it is already perfect.

manickavelu (velu) added a critique 1 year ago:

nice idea. but the blown out highlights are distracting. sorry :(

cheguillaume (Pierre-Yves cheguillaume) added a critique 1 year ago:

Except the lights (which can be corrected), it's a good one.

jbloch75 (Jeff Bloch) added a critique 1 year ago:

I'd do a slight crop on the right to get rid of the light that's overpowering the shot. Other than that... it's good for this topic. Good perspective.

thanks for the comment duncmc. much appreciated.

i assure you there is no photoshop magicwork on this image. i shot it with a 200mm f/4 nikkor macro at the widest aperture.

dominik (Dominik Fusina) said 1 year ago:

Very beautiful shoot !!!! Really. Splendid coloursn perfect flower...
And great lens ;)
(like my 60mm Nikkor !)

Sher (Sher Hilliard) said 1 year ago:

I'm only new to this..but I know what I like. I love the sky colors in this. To me personally though, the boat is almost lost with so much sky.. my eye is drawn to the sky colors rather than the boat. I guess the boat is almost too minimalist for me. Man, I hate saying that really as you have so much more experience than I do...but thats what i feel. Sorry!

VernonTrent (Vernon Trent) said 1 year ago:

@sher
there's no need to say sorry. :-)
bob (first comment) has given a very good explanation of this pic, he hit the mark on waht I wanted to say with this picture.

i agree with drcphotography.

if you crop from the top & left, you might get a better effect.

adisdjapo (Adis Djapo) added a critique 1 year ago:

I have to agree with the previous comment. Too centered. And also I don't like the way you can tell it was either cropped out from a wider photo or digitally zoomed in.

codystanley (Cody Stanley) added a critique 1 year ago:

While I like the idea of a dead center(no man's land) subject to express this topic, I'm afraid the image is not strong enough for that cropping.

gazdi (Csaba Bobák) added a critique 1 year ago:

I also have to agree it's too centered. Placing the gull off-center and leaving much more room around it would help conveying the feelings of solitude.

jaapv added a critique 1 year ago:

I agree with the previus posters. Although the "rules" of composition are made to be broken, this was not the occasion imo.

charmarie (Charmarie) added a critique 1 year ago:

I would suggest lightening and sharpening it's to dark for my taste. However nice crop.

kamaki (Christophe) said 1 year ago:

thank you for your comments. However, the original photography is darker than this; and I think it's better for contrast. Actually, The paper developpment is less "white".

23pixels (Rowell) added a critique 1 year ago:

Nice composition. I think this picture works. I can't imagine it looking any brighter than that. You'd lose the shadows. Great work!

manickavelu (velu) added a critique 1 year ago:

very nice composition.

spherop (Daniel Newman) added a critique 1 year ago:

like the comp ...agree a little lightening in the bottom half to enable the eye to really make out those shapes without working too hard.

wow! that's reflection/perfection!

pavankvn said 1 year ago:

This is just awesome. Very nice colors too.

simple_dolphin (Irene Yan) said 1 year ago:

thanks, all, for your kind words.

This is taken at Master-of-nets Garden, Suzhou, China.

A saying claims that "the gardens in the area south of the Lower Yangtse are better than any other gardens under the sun, and the gardens of Suzhou beat them all"

With a history of more than 2,500 years, the Suzhou gardens were brought into existence by harmonising buildings, rockeries, watercourses and vegetation, transcending reality to ideality. A large number of the Ming and Qing Dynasties gardens have survived to the present days and are spread all over the city of Suzhou. 9 of them have been inscribed on the World Heritage List by UNESCO during recent years.

One Chinese saying 移步易景 perfectly describes the gardens in Suzhou. It means just by moving one single step, the view in front of you is changed. That's why one can really spend hours in a garden not so big but enjoying every moment of it, and you will never get bored of it :)

Blumie (Sabine) added a critique 1 year ago:

I ask myself, how I could do this. It has the feeling of a drawing, but it it full of details like a perfect photo. Great job all together.

manickavelu (velu) added a critique 1 year ago:

the stumps in the foreground is a little distracting, but the main subject, which I believ eis the blue lit building & the background .. along with the silky look of the water due to the long exposure is nicely captured.

dpd (Piet Osefius & Rob van Kleef) added a critique 1 year ago:

It's a nice combination of colours and reflections with the boat in the center. The stumps in the foreground are a bit dominant.

mrsankey (Andrew Sankey) added a critique 1 year ago:

I really like to colors, but like other people said, the stumps in the front are a bit distracting to the eye. good work!

bbonner (Bonner Photographic) added a critique 1 year ago:

I seem to be on a panoramic kick tonight, but I agree with the others, the stumps do not contribute to the image. I would fix that by cropping right above them and making a nice panoramic image. I love the colour and detail in the image. Brilliant.
