Great subject with great potential but I think it's a little dark and for the topic the saturation of the red should be cranked up.

like the way the light is playing with these flowers.. lovely colours and composition, there is so much movement in this picture..

Thanks everyone! dreamer: I wish, I'm too poor for analogue anymore, it's digital with some tweaking in Adobe Raw. Having fun with new settings...

this is impressive, dof great

Bravo!
I particularly appreciate the realistic color rendition. Everybody seems to just ramp up the saturation because they can. I'm so glad you didn't.

Improvement ?... Well... maybe a leaf on the chair ? :-)))
Excellent !!

Yes, she is a sweetie, ate leaves right out of our hands. She is nearly 18 feet tall. We were on the back of a photo safari truck.
Thanks everyone for the comments!!

Thank you to everyone who commented. I am humbly surprised... I always loved this photo, but I didn't think anyone would agree with me. =)
I am also a little surprised that so many people feel the highlights are blown. I'm sure you're right, I just never noticed, and still don't fully understand. It however is a fabulous illustration to me of what I still need to learn. Can someone help me understand? Is it the fact that there are large areas in the clouds that don't retain any detail or is there something else I'm not uderstanding?
And thank you everyone for the input on the vignetting. I'm still exporing different ways to achieve these types of effects and the visions I have in my head don't always suit the photo, or even suit my skill level.
Thanks everyone.

the bulbs that are lit seem almost too bright...not sure how to fix that...but i love the shadow on the wall
Beamer (Clyde Beamer) added a critique 11 months ago:
This subject has a lot of potential. The tonal range is actually the best part of this right now. The image needs some breathing room at the top and left and needs to be straightened somehow. Do you have any more image??
koo88 said 11 months ago:
There is pretty much no room other than what is seen. There is actually two paintings that hang above it. I didn't want the bottom of the paintings in the shot. I took mulitple shots. I will see if I can play around with one of the others. Thanks for the comments as usual.
lightholder (Kimberly Lightholder) added a critique 11 months ago:
If you can't add to the top, I'd consider a close crop on the bottom perhaps to help balance the subject? Love the shadow.
koo88 said 11 months ago:
I took your suggestion light and cropped the bottom. I will repost it when I can. Thanks for the advice.

I like the shot, but there is a lot going on here. I agree with Tammy that you should have cropped it.

Love this. Might suggest a bit of level adjustment to bring out the white moss a bit more, but lovely otherwise.

actually this came from a compact point and shoot...was walking around in the yard and saw the berries...had it in my pocket
Beamer (Clyde Beamer) added a critique 11 months ago:
Most of what I said still applies. Get yourself a little lightweight tripod at Target or Best Buy for about $20. Most of the point and shots have threads to mount on a tripod. The biggest problem you will probably have is how close it will focus.
jasonkravitz (Jason Kravitz) added a critique 11 months ago:
You may also try changing the position of your subject (in this case the Berries) in different parts of the frame (as opposed to dead center).
As an exercise, Go back out to the yard and take a few more photos of the same berries. Place the berries in a different part of the frame in each shot (top left, lower left, top right, lower right etc)
Review these images and you may find certain ones appeal to you more than others. Looks for other elements in the each position like the leaves hanging off the sides. See how these add or detract to the overall image in the different versions of the shot.
lightholder (Kimberly Lightholder) added a critique 11 months ago:
If you like the shallow dof (as I do) you might consider lowering your camera angle so that the background gets more distance from the subject as the ground stretches away from you. It's a quick way of getting dof when working with a compact.

Feels a little "snapshot". The image needs to be straightened, the building tilts up on the right. The framing/cropping at the top is very tight to the tip of the tower, needs a bit of breathing room.
warreagle (Amy Warr) added a critique 11 months ago:
this place is so big perhaps a wide angle perspective would work well
CouCou33 (Ingrid) added a critique 11 months ago:
agreed with beamer.
It needs to be straighten out. you also should have waited for the tourists in the foreground to move out of your first plan. and you have too much ground and not enough sky...
lightholder (Kimberly Lightholder) added a critique 11 months ago:
Since it appears unlikely you can reshoot this, you might consider cropping the bottom right up to the line of birds to balance the close crop on the top.

Definately a great choice for the subject! I agree with Tammy, it seems a little soft and the rust would really stand out with a lillte more focus on the blades.
And by the way....Roll Tide! :)

LoL I don't know how I guessed! ;)
lightholder (Kimberly Lightholder) added a critique 11 months ago:
I love the composition, it such a shame about the focusing, but sometimes that's just what happens depending on camera or lens. I have a tiny thought to perhaps crop in a bit on the left to pull more into the rust? Don't know if it would work though...
Love the colours... :)
This is a very strange photography. I cant pic out a context. I like it. Was it a flat bed scan?
