thanks this is just a point and shoot, i noticed the sunset and had to try :)
lightholder (Kimberly Lightholder) added a critique 11 months ago:
It does appear a bit blown, but that's just life. :) I might consider cropping it into more of a panaromaic shape to balance the subject a bit more.

thank you for your idea!

This is not bad - tone it down a little and you have a winner!

I don't mind the flower, it's like a wink in the middle of a photo. I like the processing as well, it adds to the eerie feel of the photo.
Foto-Gen-X added a critique 11 months ago:
yeah the flowere is a little distracting.. but a very cool foto

Thanks for stop on the photo.

I was very drawn to the thumbnail of this picture. When I opened it I was rewarded with this beautiful photo - I was not surprised to see that it was your work.
The black across the top left is only slightly distracting because it pulls my eye over to that side. However the combination of the dark background and the light upon the bust, gives the man an ethereal effect - as if he is looking down upon this sacred place to ensure that everything remains respectful.
I wonder how it would look cropped a little tighter, to eliminate the cross on the left. You could even submit this photo to selective saturation because of the tonality and the one bit of color in the rose she is holding (which in my opinion is not at all distracting.)
Very nice capture and color.

Eric,
Wonderfully seen and executed. This is one of the best shots I have seen here in some time.
Best,

Awesome grain Clyde, personally I'm a big fan of it :)
I agree about the tones, might help bring out some details, fantastic find!!!
diamondnet (Dénes Szabó) added a critique 10 months ago:
The BW conversion was not so succesful..there are too many grey on the photo.
I mostly prefer BW-photos, but in this case, i would like to see this in colorful version.
lightholder (Kimberly Lightholder) added a critique 10 months ago:
Beamer! Love the composition! I agree it could maybe benefit from a different B/W conversion to push the tones a bit, it seems there's a lot of detail in the shale that isn't getting enough love... :)
...and that does look dangerous!
Beamer (Clyde Beamer) said 10 months ago:
Yeah, this was on the way back down from San Antonio Falls. Handheld @1000 ISO and still under exposed. I was actually trying to pull out the detail in the shale without blowing out the fog, guess that's how it got so flat. I also struggle with the white background here. The other 2 places I post images, my blog and onexposure.net both have dark/black surrounds. I sometimes end up doing 2 different color corrections.

Beamer, i don't like this shot... I LOVE IT !

thanks for your comments guys!, i just have to add that yes, the photo tilts a bit to the right, but since this is a selfportrait it takes a bit of time to get all the aspects of the picture right! but somethimes as in these case the outcome is not 100% perfect.
CouCou33 (Ingrid) added a critique 10 months ago:
well... the vertical lines are a tad tilting to the right, but the horizontal ones seams perfectly straight to me... so it doesn't bother me :-)
I really like the idea and the concept.
lighting is very nice.
but next time, try to hide the electrical cords that are on the left of the panel ;-)
taikrixel (thomas mueller) added a critique 10 months ago:
it's a little bit to yellow for me but i like the idea and the composition with the lines.
RachelValley (Rachel Valley) added a critique 10 months ago:
This is almost "noir" for me...like I am going to see the freaky man in the hat for some information....
photoaholic (Geoffrey Reynertz) added a critique 9 months ago:
i like this shot, just one detail that disturbs me is the electrical lines in the background

@lightholder...The lomo does give a green cast so you are not imagining it. The fact that you still wanted a cup of cocoa is good enough for me though! :D
@antonio....you are right there was something missing...Irish cream! :)
Thanks to you both for the feedback!
DREED added a critique 10 months ago:
I like the shot....I like the drip down the cup.I also like The dark in the background and the lightness in the front....only thing i would say i would like to see some of the bottom cropped out.
Jessa added a critique 10 months ago:
It's funny.. from this shot I don't want a cup of cocoa. It's kind of dirty and slimy looking IMO.
the photo itself...I do like the vignetting and the shallow DOF. The shiney white spots on the table are a little distracting, also the glare on the cup by the drip is a bit distracting. So this is what a lomo does? it looks like a fun thing to play with.
RachelValley (Rachel Valley) said 10 months ago:
@jessa Hot chocolate gone to the dark side! I see the blow outs and I think you are right....
Thanks again to all for your comments..

I like the split tone and the depth of field, but I would have loved to see a somewhat less tight crop (especially tot he right of the image).

I like it, it's such a pleasing shot with a variety of vivid colors, the subject is nice and clear. The squirrel is great and the birds are just an added bonus. Good shot. Pretty location.

mrsmorunion (Tammy Runion) added a critique 10 months ago:
Does it really tilt or is it just an illusion created by the shape of the water and the mountain. The colors are beautiful. The clarity of amazing. One of my personal favorites!
oz_sprog (Will Williams) said 10 months ago:
I think it might be an effect of the wide angle lens, thanks for all the great feedback folks!
pete (Pete) added a critique 10 months ago:
i cant decide if i want this to be straightened or not! i can just imagine this in a gallery, and everyone looking at it just slowly tilting their heads, following the water.
the reflection is lovely and the colours are great. well done :)
RachelValley (Rachel Valley) added a critique 10 months ago:
Superb with the natural vanishing point...I love the yellow of the grass contrasting against the trees...The procession of trees along the bank is a nice touch too!
Very good!

You know, when i saw the thumbnail, i was a bit luke warm about this photo, but upon loading it, it quite like it, the detail you captured is gorgeous and colours are increased wonderfully. If i were to pick something to critique, the only thing I can think of is that the highlights seem a bit high, but i actually think it works for the image, so i probably wouldn't change it.
Nicely done.
jvgphoto (jon van gilder) added a critique 10 months ago:
Obviously, not your standard lighting for a portrait! Very funny, I guess:-) Works for me.
RachelValley (Rachel Valley) added a critique 10 months ago:
Everything is spot on for me on this with one tiny exception...I would like the eyes to be a smidge lighter...but that is my personal thing....sparkle in the eye!
I'm sorry, I feel this is over exposed and hard to look at, but I admire your attempt. I've tried to take shots using the car mirrors and it's tough to get a good shot.
