Nice effect. Overall, the image is a little cluttered. I'd like to see this effect in a simpler image.

Lindy (Lindy G) added a critique 1 year ago:

I think this is cool ,love that it is b&w ..cool concept!

POBSB (Petra) added a critique 1 year ago:

I like the effect, very interesting. Maybe it gets even better when you crop de light on the left

aepoc (Jason Kessenich) added a critique 1 year ago:

dcrphotography has a good point on the clutter of the image. I like how the monitor on the left is completely blown out. The 'three-sided' subject is pretty interesting. How long of a shutter was this?

leaves said 1 year ago:

f 4.5 with a 30 second shutter, the lighting was very very low, mostly coming from the monitor itself. thanks a lot for the critiques.

You had fun setting up and taking this for sure. :) Please do not chop his head next time. I don't mind the burnt and pure black parts caused by the high contrast setting but the saturation is too much for my taste. Time to time it's nice to have a small sensor, this type of shots are so hard to make sharp with a dSLR.

PhotoDaniels (Stephanie Daniels) added a critique 1 year ago:

This is hilarious!
I would try adjusting the levels before I did anything contrast-wise. By adjusting the midtones, you may find that you don't have to touch the contrast feature at all! This way, you won't get the pitch-black shadows such as on his neck. This really is a FUN shot! Nice!

CodeRed (Cody Redmon) added a critique 1 year ago:

Little Hulkster...funny stuff. I agree that it might be slightly oversaturated, and the super-dark areas are a bit distracting to the eye...but the angle on this one is great. It really makes the little fellow look strong, stout in stature...the very thing that mask would have him believing. Nice snap, leaves!

Neuner added a critique 1 year ago:

Made me laugh. Love the angle. I wouldn't have cropped his head.

mrsmorunion (Tammy Runion) added a critique 1 year ago:

This shot captures a very spirited child! He looks like he enjoyed it and hope that you did too! I love the bright colors.

Beamer (Clyde Beamer) added a critique 1 year ago:

I appreciate the idea, I just think it is a little too exaggerated. The image is really off balance, which I know can be the idea and can be really great, this just seems a bit much.

Topher (Christopher Mueller) added a critique 1 year ago:

Hi Giancarlo, I really like the composition, how you have everything falling off the frame. Great idea to an otherwise average shot. Only suggestion I have is that I wish there was contrast between your leaf and background. But, you may not have had much a choice - the lighting on the critter is just right.

grahambo (Graham Siebe) added a critique 1 year ago:

I don't have enough context here to understand what is going on in this picture. I would like to see further to the left.

Laurie (Laurie) added a critique 1 year ago:

I think the image is appealing, but it took me a bit to figure it out which may not be the best for the wildlife theme.

toute la violence de l'attaque de la chenille sur la feuille ;) toutes les règles abandonnées il reste une photo qui interpelle

I concur with Beamer... this is such an image where I'd be photographing one thing I hate the most, contrails. Those aside, you have a beautiful horizon here and lots of sky. Love it. Wish the horizon was straight, or would like to see it that way. I'll tilt my screen and try ;)

grahambo (Graham Siebe) added a critique 1 year ago:

I like the composition. I wish the contrast in the sky could have been pushed a little bit more.

Cass (Cass Horton) added a critique 1 year ago:

I have to line up with the "pro contrail" side here :) -- they work, in this image. I feel they're the key element here for the strongest point of this shot, and that's *depth* ... you can really fall in to a sky shot like this, and leading lines (contrails) can help. But it's not all good, the horizon line is bugging me, and there's too much nondescript murky shadow over on the lower right hand side -- maybe some cropping and straightening could work it out.

lolly (lolly smits) added a critique 1 year ago:

Love the sky, agree with Laurie.

Laurie (Laurie) added a critique 1 year ago:

The level of detail is pretty amazing. I'm not sure it says much about you though as a self portrait, yes it is you, but to me a self portrait should tell a little about who we are. It is technically a great photo though.

"Self Portraits" - Creative ways to photograph yourself.

After I read the description of the topic I felt the photo was appropriate .

I know this isn't a typical self portrait.. but somehow it's fitting..

Thanks a lot for the comments :)

grahambo (Graham Siebe) added a critique 1 year ago:

I like the idea, especially for the theme. I wouldn't mind a little more DOF if it was available. Probably depends on what kind of lighting was used.

dcrphotography (Daniel) added a critique 1 year ago:

I like it. Hell, I think this is pretty creative. I mean, how many shots of eyes do you see on the net? Too damn many IMO. Its nice to see a shot that is about eyelashes, not the peep hole. Good job.

tulna (Tulna Chauhan) added a critique 1 year ago:

This is too good! Fantastic shot. I love the idea.

grahambo (Graham Siebe) added a critique 1 year ago:

I agree with Beamer. I would probably aim for an 8x10 size and crop off the bottom edge some too to loose the twig on the lower left and the leaf in the bottom center.

This picture would also be neat as a high contrast BW.

MMeye (Martine) added a critique 1 year ago:

Excellent subject, and nothing to say about the beautiful DOF. My only regret is the way you compose the pic, I would have preferred the subject positionned in the left or right part.

Laurie (Laurie) added a critique 1 year ago:

I think the composition could be improved by not having the subject so centralized here. There are some dark twigs on the right of the frame that are a little distracting because they don't blend well into the wonderful background which makes them compete a little with the main subject as opposed to complimenting it.

Jordan (Jordan Young) added a critique 1 year ago:

Hmm, I don't remember this photo. I like it. I disagree with the others on the composition, I think it's nice to a see a centered subject once and a while, everything uses the rule of thirds these days. However, due to the lack of colors (looks mostly brown but I'm colorblind) I think it would be better suited in Grayscale with some pretty heavy contrast, might make it look a bit more captivating.

leaves said 1 year ago:

I noticed the cool shape while walking along a path in some woods. I did the best I could to get rid of extra twigs but obviously I could have done better. I wanted to capture the natural curves/bends.

The dark twig to the right did bother me a bit, but I couldn't think of a solution (I don't think cropping would have helped much as it would still be in the frame). I didn't notice the smaller twig to the left and I wish I would've clone stamped it out now v.v

I'm not much of a cropper to be honest, it takes a lot for me to step outside 6:9 ratio.

I did consider going b&w on this one but I decided not to because I thought you would loose the twig with the blurry backdrop, but maybe with the right tweaking with contrast it might turn out better than the colored version.

Thanks for all the nice comments :)

Nice, but... something is disturbing me a bit.
the body is completly dark, is it a choice? i'm quite sure i had prefer to have some details and some light on the body :)

sniker added a critique 1 year ago:

I like this. Especially without the detail on the person. A little more of the trees leaves could have been nice, i think...

grahambo (Graham Siebe) added a critique 1 year ago:

I like the photo and the processing. But I'm not sure it says Solitude to me. It seems like something exciting is about to happen.

I realize this probably wasn't shot specifically for the topic, but perhaps something slightly different like the rope tied to the platform would convey more stillness.

rverspirit (eddie mchugh) added a critique 1 year ago:

Successful B&W....cryptic narrative...nicely composed.

rverspirit (eddie mchugh) added a critique 1 year ago:

This photo has a lot going for it... wonderful cryptic narrative and a very nice tonality to it.. one suggestion...a bit of cropping...say 15-20% of the bottom to consolidate the subject for the viewer..
