Great capture! Only a few things catch my eye, though. The shadow under his ear is a little harsh. You did great capturing the texture of his skin! I also noticed it's cropped a little tight. I think he needs a little more up top - he looks like he's about to bump his head! ;) Great photo!!

I'm glad you said that about the crop on top - I was wondering the same thing. Thanks!

I like the texture and the DOF, but I don't like the composition or the harsh direct overhead light. The cropping is too tight. He/she looks so sad and depressed. I don't really like his/her trunk being cut off either, but that's just me.

The colours provide a nice contrast between background and foreground. The cropping is a bit tight (as everybody else already mentioned), but I think that not too much extra space should be allowed, as you do want to keep the elephant as the focus.

The tight crop on top will work if you drop down and show more trunk and body and add a little more space in front of the elephant so he has somewhere to go…To tight in front and it feels like he’s caged in the photo.

Light is a little strong, but the subject is great. You haven't left much room for this big creature to move around in! Good effort!
Best,
Jon
