Is this a full color shot?
Looks like a neat place to live.
A bayfront kind of feel to it.

kitaoka (Mark Kitaoka) said 1 year ago:

Carl, I took this shot across from the Pacifica pier just down the hill from where I live. It is full color in that the house is very weathered due to the salt air and wind, yet the only part of the house that is vibrant is the door.

Nauturally selective saturation.Beautiful!

This subject could have been done a number of ways. You figured out something quite superb.

kitaoka (Mark Kitaoka) said 1 year ago:

Thanks everyone. The image I'm holding is of my children when they were very young. The beach was one of their favorite spots. I did this image for my blog for Thanksgiving 2006. The image I'm holding was long ago, as they are now 19 and 16. My goodness how time quickly passes.

Kids...sigh. The time flies too fast. What a wonderful way to "capture" them in the palm of your hand. Marvelous work. Really wonderful.

great treatment of the subject

Very nice for the theme, indeed.

Only thing I'd change is to keep the watch in focus; seems to fall off but I'd like to see it sharp. Beautiful shot Mark.

ChickenBog (Joey) said 1 year ago:

I think this pair of hard working hands says time all by itself. You really don't need the watch. It almost seems too modern for those hands. You did a great job on composition, exposure (& probably some post processing).

I love the contrast and detail. Nice shot!

I would love to hear the stories she could share.
She reminds me of Mother Theresa at a hundred+10.

kitaoka (Mark Kitaoka) said 1 year ago:

mysight, I captured this image about seven days ago at San Francisco Airport as I was dropping a loved one off. I had my camera out to try to get a picture of the woman I was dropping off, but with all the security I could not see her. So I turned to leave and this woman was there, so I raised my camera and grabbed the shot.

I'm sure she has many stories of life that would be great to hear!

mysight (Carl H. Sr.) said 1 year ago:

Quite a catch under any circumstance.

I think you really must be in the right place at the right time,to take a shot like this Mark.
I keep wondering how she may be feeling.

kitaoka (Mark Kitaoka) said 1 year ago:

mysight, this was taken in Santa Cruz at the Santa Cruz Boardwalk last summer. The girl is on the second story of the Giant Dipper, waiting for her turn to get on the roller coaster. She was gazing out the window and I just happened to notice her and snapped a shot. Her mom was next to her on the other side of the pane. You can see the image I took of her mom here:

photos.kitaoka.us/woman%20window.htm

Not sure what she was 'wondering,' but that's the beauty of a photograph. It's up to the viewer to imagine.

mysight (Carl H. Sr.) said 1 year ago:

Her mom shows enthusiasm!
I would have never figured the lonely looking girl was waiting for a rooler-coaster ride.
More like waiting on a train with change coming.
Thanks Mark.

Melancholy scene of isolation and loneliness.
Longing to be on the opposite side of those bars.
Mark,I'm am not at all qualified to critique
a photo's technical qualities.
So I hope folks don't mind my just expressing how their work makes me feel.

kitaoka (Mark Kitaoka) said 1 year ago:

Carl, thanks for the comment. Your view of the 'mood or feeling' of an image is MUCH more important to me than any technical aspects. For me, an image should convey a feeling during the moment. I'd much prefer an image that has soul over one that is technically perfect. Thanks for your well articulated comment.
