What a powerful portrait. Absolutely beautiful.
Sher (Sher Hilliard) said 1 year ago:
mark - is this the same man in your "orange" photo?" The man holding/peeling the orange?
kitaoka (Mark Kitaoka) said 1 year ago:
Morning Sher. Yes it is the same man, Eugene. My exhibit is fast approaching and the image of his hands holding the orange will be a very prominent part of the show. As such I wanted an image of him to hang next to those magnificent hands! So I arranged to go to his home two weekends ago to photograph him.
Sher (Sher Hilliard) said 1 year ago:
Mark - Somehow I sensed his face matched those hands holding the orange. I hope your show goes fantastically well! I'm happy, envious, and excited all at the same time! (Does one say "break a leg" for a photo show?) I wish you the very best, always. You are wonderful at what you do, a true artist I attempt to both learn from, and ascribe to be more like.
kitaoka (Mark Kitaoka) said 1 year ago:
It's so interesting that so many people match Eugene's face with his hands. And it's really great that he now tells me that he feels 'famous!' I think 'break a leg' is for those that perform, but I am grateful for your well wishes.
And there is never a reason to be envious. We all know that there are so many wonderful photographic artists out there, many of them right here on Vazaar. Being invited to exhibit one's work is a combination of many things, one of them being a bit of luck. Having someone notice your work and then asking to have you exhibit is in large part luck. So yes, I feel very fortunate to have this event, but for me it certainly does not mean that my work is any better than many of those who display their art here.
I've been fortunate to have a few things happen that I honored to be a part of and the exhibit is only a small part of my good fortune. This community as well as your kind words are never taken for granted and always appreciated. Thanks Sher.

I love motion blurs and this is one of the best I've seen. The contrast between the couple and the muscian is great.

love it, that division of the wall in 2 tone planes almost makes it look on first glance like a water line. Great luminosity and shadow

Wow! Perfect timing, light, expression, sense of motion & excitement. The glow of the eyes & smile through the hair really convey the fun & thrill of the ride. I love it!

Very good, one of the best portraits I have seen recently.

This photo continues to bring a smile to my face, what a wonderful moment to capture. The perfect feature, congratulations!
What astounds me is the perfect focus and lack of any motion blur on what I assume was a fast moving target. You must have a wonderfully wide aperture on your lens to allow such a fast shutter speed.
Simply gorgeous.

Thanks to all for the very kind comments. I'm happy that I've been able to convey through this image the joy the two girls were having that moment on the Scrambler ride. My goal with most of my candid street shots is an attempt to convey what I think the person was feeling at the time.
Kimberly, I normally don't offer EXIF data for my shots, but here's how it was taken:
Camera Model Canon EOS-1D Mark III
Shooting Date/Time 8/10/2007 6:48:14 PM
Shooting Mode Aperture-Priority AE
Tv( Shutter Speed ) 1/320
Av( Aperture Value ) 3.2
Metering Mode Evaluative Metering
Exposure Compensation 0
ISO Speed 250
Lens EF70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM
Focal Length 200.0 mm
I waited for their car to hit the apex of the outermost part of the arc of their car, just before it began to move in the opposite way. To grab a shot while they were moving at full speed would have been really difficult. I tried to stand where the light would be effective on their faces and took this shot.

Thank you. This image was taken during a rehearsal of Luis Bravo's Forever Tango. I had the opportunity to shoot the rehearsals and three live performances of this magnificent dance troupe. This image will be included in my book, 'Moments of Passion' later this year.

Very powerful Mark. What is the story behind this image?
kitaoka (Mark Kitaoka) said 1 year ago:
This homeless couple was sitting in the bus shelter. The woman was looking at another couple entering their new Mercedes Benz and her eyes met the eyes of the woman entering the car. The homeless woman's expression is such a haunting one. For me this is certainly one of the most moving images in my library.
Thanks for your comments.
