This image was taken at this year's Japanese Tea Ceremony at the Cherry Blossom Festival in San Francisco's Japan Center. This man was waiting for his part in the ceremony.

Excellent work. I especially like the clarity and composition of this photo.

Ladybug (Lisa Ruokis) said 1 year ago:

The light on the hands is just perfect, and I also love the soft folds of the contrasting fabric.

I am so glad that I made my way to Vazaar and found your work. I love it so much!

mysight, this was taken on California Street just west of Kearny Ave. in San Francisco. I had gone to the City early on a Sunday morning looking for shots. I waited on the 'up' side of California Street and waited until the people began crossing the street to take this one. I was 'practicing' my attempts at recreating some of Frederic Larson's images from the book 'Mystical San Francisco.' Here is a link to the image I was emulating:

I like your take better.
The other was too dark for me.

The wavy lines make this a really mesmerizing shot. The silhouettes of the people are just wonderful.

This is a fantastic portrait of Ms. Martin! Terrific light and her expression says it all.

kitaoka (Mark Kitaoka) said 1 year ago:

Thank you Brant. As you know I almost always prefer black and white with human expression imagery. I went back and forth on this one, but because Tracy's eyes are so stunningly blue, I wanted to leave the image in color. The warmth of the lighting at the Monterey Bay Aquarium where this was taken was just right for this shot. It adds to the warmth of the person Tracy is everyday. She was of course 'stalking' her prey which I believe by her expression is an adorable little boy.

bslomovic (Brant Slomovic) said 1 year ago:

Im really glad you went against your usual preference and went with the colour version of this image Mark. It really is exceptional. The colour components really do add to it and bring out the very qualities you highlighted in your subject matter. I am sure she's very pleased.

Congrats on the feature Mark (and Tracy). Well done.

This remains on of the finest images I have seen on line, anywhere. Really incredible Mark!

kitaoka (Mark Kitaoka) said 1 year ago:

Brant, thank you so much. I am using this image as one of the cornerstones of my upcoming exhibition. This is also a prominent image in my pro site Tracy is currently developing. I will be doing a location shoot of Eugene this coming weekend to compliment this image of his hands with some of his day to day life.

Thanks again.

bslomovic (Brant Slomovic) said 1 year ago:

Mark, cant wait to see whats next in the Eugene series. He must be a fascinating subject. Best of luck with the exhibit (the poster looks great) and the new website.

I love how the water is the main subject in this. Nine times out of ten it's the model that is the highlight of the shot. Your photo depicts, to me, the importance of water. Very well done.

calisto said 1 year ago:

this photo really touches me. all this passion on it, to see how he's fallin' in his music, holding the contrabass (is it?) like a lover. and in b/w it's just great - all focus on this lovely scene!

my compliments, calisto :)

kitaoka (Mark Kitaoka) said 1 year ago:

Thanks to everyone for the comments. The man in the image is Luis Bravo who is the creator and owner of Forever Tango! the dance and musical performance troupe. I had the opportunity to shoot three live performances and rehearsals in January 2007 for an upcoming book. PBS will be airing a special on the making of Forever Tango in March 2008 that encompasses their performance and life on the road. My book along with a DVD and CD of the music and performances will be offered to subscribers later next year.
