You've caught a great moment in this image. I also like the tonal range in this one. Well seen and photographed.

Mark,

Nice shot in a situation where the lighting looks a little tricky - the subject matter really holds the interest of the viewer. One of my favorites.

Cheers,
Jon

Very strong photo. Beautifuly painful, if I may say so.

jcniguez (José Carlos Ñíguez) said 10 months ago:

La tristeza de la cara y el hematoma del ojo derecho del niño, transmite la crueldad a la que está siendo sometido. La imagen borrosa de segundo plano transmite bastante inquietud. Gran fotografía de denuncia Mark.

Hey, save a bite for me!!. Very cool Mark!! Was this "on the street"?? The light on his face feels warm, but the light from the flame feels cool??

kitaoka (Mark Kitaoka) said 10 months ago:

Clyde, you know better to ask if my images are taken 'on the street!' Come on man...
This guy is a local street performer at Fisherman's Wharf. I was milling around there early this year lamenting that I had not been out shooting for a while and was itching to shoot. After getting diddly,, I saw him and listened as some teens were harassing him. So I took this shot and told the teens to 'shut the $uck up or try it themselves.'

The flame is white simply because that is how it appeared in real life. He must use a non petroleum based flammable to prevent a bad taste in his mouth or worse. Very little smoke comes off the flame.
