SUBJEKTIV (Sigrid Kleinecke & Kurt Tutschek) added a critique 1 year ago:

have to agree: more sharpness and a bit more contrast would have been nice. but it's a fine shot - not easy to take.

notter71 (Tom Notter) added a critique 1 year ago:

not much more that i can add to what has already been said.

kadenajack (Jack) said 1 year ago:

Thanks everyone. Before I print this I'll hit it with the unsharp mask again.

TheAntipodes (Menno van Zaanen) added a critique 1 year ago:

This is nice indeed. I wonder what the halo over his head is. Is that from the background? or is it reflection from some glass? (It looks a bit like that to me). I really like the colours though.

Sonoma added a critique 11 months ago:

Nice shot. Color is a little drab, bit I didn't have an issue with the sharpness. Nice.

SeekingFocus (Jason Langley) added a critique 1 year ago:

I would have liked a bit longer exposure here to bring out a bit more detail. As it is, it's a bit dark. Also, I don't like that bush in the foreground, perhaps a different angle with that omitted would work better.

Jem (Jem Lambert) added a critique 1 year ago:

This shot doesn't really do it for me, but I think it has potential. I think it needs more exposure to bring out more detail and add more colour to the scene. I'm not sure about the street light chopped off at the top too, but that aside the image certainly has potential - i'd maybe have a bit of a play with colour balance and see if you can introduce some varied tones instead of the standard tungsten effect.

I'm with Neil, rotate slightly to the right.
Dark right-side is fine.

Thanks everyone for all the great critiques and suggestions.

This was taken kind of on the fly. I pulled up and saw this guy fishing and I positioned myself in the one place where I could silhouette him against the reflections on the water. The wind was blowing that bush around and there was a light chop in the bay. The fisherman was moving a lot, so I limited my exposures to 10 seconds and I only got to take a couple before he quit for the night. This was the best of the bunch.

Thanks for pointing out the cut off light post. I never really looked up to notice that until a few of you mentioned it. I may try to recreate this another night, since there are often people fishing in this area. I'll take your pointers to heart if I do try it again.

leaves added a critique 1 year ago:

great catch, this shot sounds like it was a pain.

if your bored one night try playing with the crop to level the horizon and maybe recreating the top of the closest lamp post from the next fully shown lamp post would be a feat.

this is a cool shot and i think with these two minor changes it would really improve the composition. :)

Pi-Production (Eric Rousset) added a critique 1 year ago:

Sorry for me it's too blurry, maybe less it would be ok ;)

psychodudu (Andrew Parker) added a critique 1 year ago:

Dude, this would be much better in black and white. I think the white of the fretboard and the keys at the top would stand out better and you could mask some of the unwanted stuff by going mono. Bit tooooo much movement though overall.

jaapv added a critique 1 year ago:

Dynamism is expressed. But at least one part of the photo should be sharp, preferably the face.

Peasap (Paul) added a critique 1 year ago:

Nice idea, although slow sync flash would have made this a better shot. It is too blurry for me also. What are the vertical white marks? They need to be removed.

kadenajack (Jack) said 1 year ago:

@ Peasap - I'm not sure which white marks you're referring to. The ones in front of the guitar are probably a reflection off of the microphone stand, which I think he bumped right when I snapped this. The ones down by his leg come from a chain he had hanging off of his belt.

Thanks for the comments folks. It seems I may be too close to this image to objectively see it. I know exactly what is what, but clearly from your reaction that's only because I was there, since the rest of you aren't seeing it as clearly. Your assessments are fair and show me that I need to remove myself further to make sure the photo says what I want it to. I opened way too wide to embrace the blur here.

I really love the colors in this and the "every-once-in-a-while lable" on some of the bottles. My only wonder is where these bottles moving? The focus is great in the middle, but I have a feeling of movement here.

doilyboy (Martin Grey Gottlieb) said 1 year ago:

Cool shot. NIce effect.

kadenajack (Jack) said 1 year ago:

Thanks ya'll. These bottles are on a turntable at the World of Coke Museum in Atlanta. I focused on the center bottle and used a shutter speed just slow enough to show the movement but not blur out everything.

thirstygiraffe (Emily Porter) said 1 year ago:

This is a neat shot. I like the movement and the little spots of red on the labels. The repetition really works here - well done!

I really like this shot. The composition, mood and sense of solitude are excellent. I just wish that shadow of the tripod wasn't there!

kadenajack (Jack) said 1 year ago:

Thanks for the comment Heath. I hate the tripod shadow too. I even tried to photoshop it out, but my results just looked bad, so I left it.

When I took the shot, I never even thought about a shadow, since it was pitch dark. A four minute exposure not only brings out all the light, but all the shadows from that light too.

I love the hustle and bustle of this shot. (bustle is a funny word). I like the green light, the red hand, the crossing, the competing hotels...all great.
