Nicely thought out composition like jon said.. but this almost makes you wonder what it is.. almost looks like something in a spider web.or like everyone else said something in ice maybe.
but good work.

Thanks all for your comments, but most ask what it is ... most who have seen my recent posts might have worked out that I spent my summer (Australia) holiday at a small beachside village ... also wanted to play with longer exposures so I went armed with some Ilford Pan F (ISO 50) film (yes, remember film and grain) ... this is a shot of a shell and a piece of coral sitting on sand at very low tide with a wave washing over them ... you might be able to see the water hitting from the top, and the area in the bottom left is where the water has just washed around them, but you can still see the grainy sand and shellgrit of the beach ... the shot turned out about how I thought it would and was captured with old Olympus OM 4 with a Tamron 90mm f2.5 macro lens and 2x converter (not just to get close but also reduce light and extend exposure) ... fast incoming tide made this the last of the opportunities for this type of shot for the day ... hope you enjoy and understand the explanation.

I like the grainy effect, it allows my amagination to work as well it could be ice or maybe sand and shells!!! Keep the shutter clicken!!!

I love it. I just wish it wasn't so tight on the left side.

Yeah I liked the couches and didn't know the best way to integrate them into the photo. On second thought, I should have elevated higher to get more of a feeling of depth.

Great great shot! I like the wall, pulls you right into the empty space, as well the boat adds balance to the picture Keep the shutter clicken :)

I really love the intense color of the picture, a bit fat on saturation, but I like it that way. Wonderful scene.

Thank you very much for your comments and appreciations. I am the first surprised one ;)

Amazing perspective ;)

I really am in awe of the depth and how it carries through to the foreground and eventual vanishing point of the image. The lightness graduating to darkness gives it a wonderful atmosphere...almost foreboding, but not really. Impressive work!

Sonoma added a critique 9 months ago:
I would not crop it tighter. The subject centered the way he is and the fact that noone else is visible on the street adds a lonely feeling to the photo. I wouldn't change it. Sometimes having some excess picture around the edges is a good thing. Some people feel the subject has to be all that's in the picture. I disagree. Good shot.
jodosh (Johnny Haddock) added a critique 9 months ago:
I agree with Sonoma, I enjoy the darkness that seems to engulf him from all sides.
The lighting in wonderful. Really top notch job.
Pradeep (Pradeep P) added a critique 8 months ago:
Wonderful lighting and lovely shadows. I guess i would love it more if the subject was not centered...just my 2 cents :)
RobH (Rob Heverly) added a critique 7 months ago:
I was confused when commenters were talking about the "centered subject" in this photo. I kept thinking, "the cart isn't centered, it's wonderfully off-center, moving from the right side of the frame to the left." The man is little more than the motor for the cart, as I see it. The lighting is delightful and the image evokes a wonderful feel. What throws me off a little is that the image is tilted to the right; the man isn't quite straight, the cart isn't quite straight, the lines on the walls are not quite straight. I'm not a stickler for purely vertical images, but if an image is off-kilter, I want it to be for a reason. I keep wanting this tilt to tell me something, to indicate something about the story, or the emotion you wanted me to feel, but I can't get anything from it, and here it seems to go against the rather calm elements that are otherwise featured in the image. I still like it.

Thank you Rob, appreciate your comments!
I took this photo at an old part of Shanghai where it's impossible to find a straight line - even the cart itself was tilting to the right..

I really like this shot. I just wish it were a little sharper. But I think it was shot fine, just needs a little PP.
jodosh (Johnny Haddock) said 7 months ago:
the lack of sharpness is actually grain from using ISO 800 film. This was taken with my Nikon f1. I digitized it with my d80. I can sent you the raw file to see what you can do, but I can't get it any sharper with my pp skills.

Very interesting shot, Unique.

A unique shot for sure captures you attention to the white right away, Maybe a little brighter would bring more out in the background :)

I have looked at this for quite a while, I think overall the tone of the river is too similar to the sky. Overall it is just kinda flat. I think the shot would be more interesting if the photographer was the focus.
lasiate added a critique 9 months ago:
une image très plate à laquelle le photographe au 1er plan aurait pu donner du relief s'il avait été net
jorgelopez (Jorge López) added a critique 9 months ago:
Good composition. Strange colours, why not in B/W?. The focus, may be difficult decision. I think with this focus you need more contrast in back, between sea, sky, trees and ship. I think you can prove and may be get like now if you don´t like new changes. Now looks strangely old. In the other side it looks different and, is this bad? I don´t think so. Good work!!

Very interesting subject matter! Nice use of grayscale and the comp. is great. Thanks for sharing.

jodosh (Johnny Haddock) added a critique 9 months ago:
I agree, a wonderful use of grayscale. The shot reminds me of games I would play as a child. Good job getting a lot of feeling and mood in your picture.
The only suggestion I can think of would be to crop out 15px or so from the top so that there isn't that really thin white space at the center that doesn't add anything to the picture IMO.
boyd added a critique 9 months ago:
Yes, I also think that this is a very strong shot. Good composition backed up with nice use of dof to keep reasonable sharpness and good textures and detail right across the frame. Well done.
Beamer (Clyde Beamer) added a critique 9 months ago:
Nice shot, agree with above. Great tonal range on this one. Feels more like "Abandoned Places" than "Empty spaces". Might try it there also.

I think this is a good picture - really makes me wonder what is happening - who is this person, what are those balls, and so on. The gray scale really helps I think.
jodosh (Johnny Haddock) added a critique 9 months ago:
It really feels like there is a story with a lot of emotion in this shot. I can't see anything wrong with it, perhaps try not having the balls centered vertically? Good job.
remirol (Andy Lorimer) added a critique 9 months ago:
Great shot allows my imagination to wander, black and white shows the focal point much clearer than if it was colour, Keep the shutter clicken :)

I think this shot is great. I do agree the top should be cropped a bit as I feel it takes away from the detail of the darker clouds and sun. It is a very nice photo nonetheless. Good work!
jodosh (Johnny Haddock) said 1 year ago:
if anyone is intrested I uploaded a cropped image here vazaar.com/topic:skyscapes/responses/response:375/

Yea I really like the new picture that is cropped from the top, focuses you back to the great sunset!!! :)keep the shutter clicken :)
Yes it is "Abstract" and that's nice. I like the tonal range, just wish the lower left area was sharper.
