You don't need to change a thing. An excellent shot. Bold colour, crisp feeling and great DOF.

Sher (Sher Hilliard) added a critique 1 year ago:

I agree, excellent photo. I wouldn't change anything.

Lush and real tactile feeling of wetness

Incredible shot - love the colors, dof, and is this thing sharp or what - amazing.

Cheers,

thanks for the comment, dontbrandme.

this shot was taken in a garden & what you see in the background is a set of out-of-focus flowers. shooting it with a Nikkor 200 macro at a wide aperture really isolates the background & lets the foreground stand out.

Awesome shot!

the subject is so clear and sharp it hardly looks real. What a great shot.

Laurie (Laurie) said 1 year ago:

Thanks all.

This little fella joined me on the deck for a drink yesterday afternoon when I was shooting a vase of cut sunflowers that my husband gave to me. I had sprayed them with water for the photos and I guess he was thirsty. He was so tiny; less that 5 mm I'd say, about the size of a pencil point. I couldn't believe I actually caught him this clearly with my macro lens hand held. It must have been my lucky day!

Wow, I love photos like this. Well done. The fly looks suspended in mid-air, like an airplane ready to take off! Really nice atmosphere.

Thanks for your comment! I was actually shooting lights on the freeway. I moved the camera in a pattern (sort of like a figure eight) as we drove. I was trying it out for fun, and ended up liking the result.

gregcsmith (Greg Smith) added a critique 1 year ago:

I love it. The only disappointment is the small bit of green flare in the bottom left. Great Shot!!

Sher (Sher Hilliard) added a critique 1 year ago:

I've been trying out your technique for the past week Ashley - how long was your exposure time? I love the vivid colors!

cashleym (Ashley Tanner) said 1 year ago:

Sher, I am glad you are trying it out. I hope you get the result you are looking for! My exposure time was 30 seconds. I just kept moving the camera the whole time while my husband drove. That is all there is to it!

wow this is amazing! its not too cluttered or repetitive either.. i like it a lot good job!

nattfodd (Alexandre Buisse) added a critique 1 year ago:

Simply brilliant! I can't find anything to criticize in here.

Was this real mist or just water with a really, really slow speed? It's not the first time I see this kind of shot and I've always wondered...

zenith9 (Bob and Jeannie) said 1 year ago:

nattfodd, the ten stop filter reduces the shutter speed by a factor of 1000 (1024 to be precise). If I remember right this exposure was around 65 seconds in afternoon light - the normal exposure would have been about 1/15 - 1/20 second. Any water slapping up the beach takes on a very misty look.

nattfodd (Alexandre Buisse) added a critique 1 year ago:

@zenith9: that's great, I've hit this problem many times and usually just have resolved to wait sunset...

Thanks a lot for this tip, I will try to get one of those filters!

psychodudu (Andrew Parker) added a critique 1 year ago:

Doesn't look like water though, does it...? It looks...like mist. So there's your criticism. Extremely atmospheric it is, and a super image, water however, it is not. Always had a little problem with this representation of water, I'm afraid. Just voicing my opinion, you can't have it all your own way...lol!

creative666 (Craig Wilson) added a critique 1 year ago:

I love it! I'd have it printed and hang it on a wall! Truely a great image...

Wonderful composition. Lack of punch in the color though.

gregcsmith (Greg Smith) said 1 year ago:

Thanks. The photo was taken close to sunset and the original has a great orange hue. It hasn't transfered onto vazaar very well. The colour has lost its impact on the size reduction.

Great catch. Great for the topic. I wish there was a little more PP to get the color to stand out more. Nothing extreme like some local contrast...

gregcsmith (Greg Smith) said 1 year ago:

Thanks for the comments. I have not prossessed this at all and am not a photoshop guru to say the least. Anyone want to give me a quick guide to how to improve on Photoshop. Would be muchly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

woodpulp (A. Craig Snyder) added a critique 1 year ago:

fantastic shot. Same comments as everyone else though, top feathers and a little too dark.

luan (Luan Huynh) added a critique 1 year ago:

Great shot, but I agree with the others - pity the wing tip was cut off. It may very well be worthwhile to consider photoshop, as it would not be too hard to clone in the wing and stretch the top of the frame.

andygibb (Andy Gibb) added a critique 1 year ago:

my favourite bird and a great capture, well framed
