Now if the figure had been more distant, like away in the fifteenth or twentieth row of seating, that would have been perfect for solitude. Still a nice shot though.

Brilliant!

LensEnvy (Mark Fleming) said 1 year ago:

I agree ... a bit farther off in the distance would have been perfect for solitude. Though, forgetting the solitude, its a fantastic image.

awesome picture-i think it would be better if the cord was not in the picture-but that is just my opinion.

doilyboy (Martin Grey Gottlieb) added a critique 1 year ago:

I agree with Paul. Rally like the image... the DOF, colors, textures, etc, but the cord detracts from the control knobs.

duncmc (Duncan McMillan) added a critique 1 year ago:

I can't fault this picture. Personally I like the cord, it makes the shot more interesting. Without the cord the image would make a very nice brochure shot for a mixing desk manufacturer, but as an image in its own right I believe the absence of the cord would leave it a little bland.

oneye (Rodion Kovenkin) added a critique 1 year ago:

First of all i think that the shot is not sharp enough. As for cord - I dont like the position of it. It makes chaos, it distracts me. Instead of cord i want see here the "jack" with the yellow stripe like those on the up of the image.

dcrphotography (Daniel) added a critique 1 year ago:

Seems very crowded. Too much stuff here.

amazing! I'm guessing you live close to this bridge :)

the fact that the subject is close to the center of the frame is bothering me a little bit .. but just a teensy bit.

did you shoot it in color & then process it as B&W? Or did you shoot it as a B&W original.

looking forward to seeing more images from you, duncan.

duncmc (Duncan McMillan) said 1 year ago:

I pass this bridge every day on my way to and from work. The image was shot in colour. Originally I was interested in the sunset colours in the sky, but I thought the mood suited a B&W treatment. I agree about the central composition. Oh well.

xzroxyzx (Valerie Casavant-Houle) said 1 year ago:

one of the best b&w i've seen so far. the composition is perfect, and you can really feel the solitude here. it looks like the world around has stopped moving. bravo :)

I like the cool tones of the black/white image - fits the subject very well.

Great work and well done on feature. The BW conversion is perfect . One of my faves .

i'm amazed, very effective capture, even the burn-out has its role. how is it not featured?!

AngryBuddha (Sean Bailey) said 1 year ago:

What a gorgeous shot!

duncmc (Duncan McMillan) said 1 year ago:

A great image. Perhaps if the figures were further to the left it would benefit the composition, but that's just me finding fault 'cause I'm jealous ;-)

manickavelu (velu) said 1 year ago:

i think the figures being in the middle adds to the symmetry!

nice shot!

A tricky one to critique. The sky has some nice cloud texture and is a smashing colour, as is the sea. But as a whole the image doesn't really have an impact on me.

Cropping out most of the sand, except for the thinnest sliver to cover the bottom of the image, definitely improves the composition. And if only the figure was wearing a bright red or yellow tee shirt.

I can't really fault this photo, I just can't find much to say about it that is positive. Sorry.

duncmc (Duncan McMillan) added a critique 1 year ago:

Oh, I should have said that I do think is fits the topic nicely. So that's something good then ;-)

Paulforrester (Paul Forrester) added a critique 1 year ago:

i like this photo-well done

dcrphotography (Daniel) added a critique 1 year ago:

I think some cropping both from the top and the bottom will make a stronger image.

very interesting processing. strange look with a surreal touch.

ArneG (Arne Gulstene) said 1 year ago:

This was shot on Provia 100 - Medium Format with my Yashica 124G and cross processed.

VernonTrent (Vernon Trent) said 1 year ago:

haha

the "provia red lips" :) on this red you can recognize the provia.

duncmc (Duncan McMillan) said 1 year ago:

I thought this was cross processed. The lips are very striking. Nice effect. Note to self - must get back into analogue.

Very Nice, love the colors in this.

manickavelu (velu) added a critique 1 year ago:

works for this theme.

i would've like it if the subject was more in focus.

duncmc (Duncan McMillan) added a critique 1 year ago:

Nice colours, but compositionally I think could be improved. Maybe a closer, tighter crop, maybe at an angle. Sharper would be good too.

A nice plant macro with some fine colours - love that pink and purple against the green.

Good to see such an unlikely interpretation of the topic.

Cool. I like this wonderful perspective, although I'm not sure it conveys solitude to me.

psychodudu (Andrew Parker) said 1 year ago:

Just kidding, it's great.

duncmc (Duncan McMillan) said 1 year ago:

Personally I'm not into the Photoshop treatment, particularly as it makes the figure look less sharp or unfocussed. Neither do I like the black bands (eek - I'm sounding really negative).

On the whole though this is very nice photo – I love the composition and view point, and the contast between the textures of the surf, the sand (light and dark) and the foreground vegetation.
