I took it at the end of last year, so I'm no longer entirely positive—the original is on a hard drive in another country at the moment. I think the saturation was increased a bit, but I don't recall adjusting the hue very radically. There was a fairly wide range of coloration on those grasshoppers.
chromaticmelody (Dhiren Bhatia) said 1 year ago:
Very nice shot. I like it no matter how it was made. Those grasshopers sure are crazy looking.

I also like the idea of a different way of cropping the picture. What if you cropped it so that the top of the picture was the very tops of the fence posts? I think that the area above that in the picture is uninteresting and the bike blends into the trees too much. The bottom part of the picture has much more interesting contrast that makes my eyes bounce around as compared to the top part of the picture which is more gray. I think the softness of the picture works well really. :) Overall it's a really nice picture I think!

I agree with Samantha That would turn a good picture into a striking one.
Laurie (Laurie) said 1 year ago:
Hmmm...worth a try. I will crop it and resubmit it.

Laurie,
Did you resubmit this one? Nice capture.
Best,

@Jon (jvgphoto) Thanks...yes I did resubmit this in a square format which worked better.

thanks for the comment, dontbrandme.
this shot was taken in a garden & what you see in the background is a set of out-of-focus flowers. shooting it with a Nikkor 200 macro at a wide aperture really isolates the background & lets the foreground stand out.

I also like that he's not looking directly at the camera. I wish both eyes were in focus, but everything else is great.

This is really beautiful, don't know what to say to improve....
dicksdaily (Richard Partridge) added a critique 1 year ago:
This is a powerful shot, but to me shallow DOF requires an area to be quite sharply focused with the rest out of focus and I don't quite see a sharply focused part in this ... don't get me wrong I like the overall effect - i'm just not sure that it says shallow DOF to me....
Sher (Sher Hilliard) added a critique 1 year ago:
I must agree with Richard.. I see no specific area that IS focused..no shallow DOF. However, this shot is lovely and the subject wonderful. I would however like to see something in focus to direct my eye.
LadyWings (Kara Brothers) added a critique 1 year ago:
I agree with Richard and Sher as well. There's nothing here that's in focus enough to really draw my eye in.

Gorgeous. I love the colors on the chrome and how the water seems to have little bits of glitter flowing through it. The background is also very interesting and captivating as well. No complaints at all!

My first reaction "WOAH RUN! LADY RUN!". This is amazing. The color of the land/rock is so gorgeous. Love how rich all of the colors are in this actually.
