I was right!!

Sher (Sher Hilliard) added a critique 1 year ago:

I still like it..a bit hairy and a bit "cutting edge" if you ask me!

chaba (David Chabashvili) added a critique 1 year ago:

nice details..i would prefer more symetrical shot here though

chromadreams (David) added a critique 1 year ago:

great job Jason, but I think that maybe it had been more enigmatically if you had taken it more perpendicularly, that's just a sugestion.
:)

byutanner (Jason Tanner) said 1 year ago:

Thanks David and David:) I'll have to try the shot perpendicular. It's tough to get the focus right (I'm shooting reverse macro), but with enough trial and error, I can see. Thanks!

Added blue gives the feeling of postcards from 60-ties and move attention from the wing to city. Fresh approach to the subject. Good job.

Thanks Kazimierz!

Hey,looks like you chartered a plane to get these shots?
Sure looks crowded down there.

byutanner (Jason Tanner) said 1 year ago:

Yeah I had a business trip and since I couldn't find any other time to take photos... :)

tuscanice (Jo) added a critique 1 year ago:

Your comp on this is perfect. Have you tried it in b&w with perhaps a diffused glow added? Well seen:)

nattfodd (Alexandre Buisse) added a critique 1 year ago:

Very nice composition but I agree that there is something awkward in the colours. Probably the fact that the sand, the log and the mountain have very similar tones.
I also think adding some green to the colour balance would help, since it's quite reddish at the moment.
B&W could also do the trick.

byutanner (Jason Tanner) said 1 year ago:

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll have to give that a try. Good thoughts. How would you add the diffused glow Jo?

chromadreams (David) added a critique 1 year ago:

to add the difuse glow, try to make a new layer of the hole image, give it a diffuse glow and after you do that, make a blending change and change the opacity until you get satisfied with the result.
This is my sugestion

byutanner (Jason Tanner) said 1 year ago:

Thanks all for the thoughts. I played around with it how you all mentioned (the BW and the difuse glow and different layering modes) and nothing really seemed that great to me. If anyone else wants to give it a shot feel free.

I like how the light is filtering through

byutanner (Jason Tanner) said 1 year ago:

I'm a little surprised this is featured..., but stumbled upon the light shining through the trees in Muir Woods (north of San Francisco). Really pretty area to visit.

Jenseye (Jen) said 1 year ago:

I really love the natural light and the framing.

i think its fine as it is, i like the fact that its almost as if the color of the sky blended itself with the color of the water on purpose, giving it the purple-ish look
definitely about the colors :-)

rblue85 (Tiffany) added a critique 1 year ago:

Wow, I love this! Such brilliant color in the sunset!

Paulforrester (Paul Forrester) added a critique 1 year ago:

xavtek (Xavier Rotivel) added a critique 1 year ago:

At first i thought the pic was too noisy, but in fact the color of sunset in the water is interesting. The instant is well captured and the "lowkey" look fits very well.

Blumie (Sabine) added a critique 1 year ago:

Such a funny picture, even I do not know exactly, where the arms and legs really are. But I think this poor guy also does not know that. Yes, a bit noisy, but still very funny.

byutanner (Jason Tanner) said 1 year ago:

Thanks for the comments. Not much choice on the noise because I had to increase the brightness since due to the shutter speed the image was nearly all black (but the detail was luckily there:). But in the end I liked the noisy look. Thanks!

grayphotog added a critique 1 year ago:

Very gritty, and that's impressive considering it's over water. Fixing an exposure problem in Photoshop really doesn't work though. You needed to set the camera to a faster ISO (or use faster film). Nice shot though.

byutanner (Jason Tanner) said 1 year ago:

Thanks gray. This image was a throw away, but I played with it and I liked the noise. I did have a faster ISO, but to stop motion I had to use a faster shutter speed. This was after the sunset and there was little light from the moon. I didn't have a fast lens on at the time so this was the best I could do given that.

Oh and everyone who wanted to know, this guy would skim board into oncoming waves and flip as he hit the waves. Looked pretty cool. Go see him next time you're in Carmel:)

Myke (Michael) added a critique 1 year ago:

I like this photo and I like the black and white but somehow I feel like the tones don't work as well as they could? I would like to see this one processed somehow to improve it. I have the same problem with my BW photos also and am not sure how to improve them. Good photo none the less and nice bike!

byutanner (Jason Tanner) said 1 year ago:

Thanks Mike. I wanted the BW to show the intensity of the race (this is a friend of mine in a duathlon). And yeah I've played a ton with BW processing, but agreed it can always be improved. Thanks.
