Good composition and post-processing.

The shadow across the lemon is not easy to appreciate and tends to distract. I'd disagree with Clyde about cropping and suggest including a bit more negative space in the foreground.

I love the feel of this image and the processing to get it there. I'd love to know how you did this as it's something I've been trying to do myself. Would you mind a bit of info?

bradford (Bradford Levine) said 3 months ago:

Thanks to everyone for the great feedback on this one. Dana, this was quite easy actually - all I did was punch up the contrast pretty high and then increased the saturation. I also cropped the left side to really fill the frame - I didn't want any empty space on wither side of the image. Have a great weekend.

Thanks Bradford...simple technique indeed!

Thanks everyone for your input. In doing the pp on this one I definitely lost some of the focus on the eyes. I'm going to start over and see if I can get a better result. I might post the new version under a different topic, si if you see it please let me know if you think there's an improvement.

was selective desaturation used for this image? Very powerful. Striking. You could have perhaps improved the catchlights in the eyes but I don't feel the image warrnats this. Still strong.

j'aime l'ambiance et le fait d'etre absorber par le regard.

Very nicely done - great eyes and great mouth are a great combination.

Cheers,

really intimate and striking portrait.i think it's really honest. not a typical expression too. The eye whites seem too.. white thou, was it photoshopped?

i agree with boyd the bottom part (shadow of chin) should be cropped.

I like how you have filled the frame with this bus/train (?) I also like the guy in the window, for me it adds a sense of mystery as we can not really see his entire body! Nice color as well!! great job!!

AmberDawn (Amber Sullivan) added a critique 3 months ago:

I also like the color in this one a lot. It has a sense of busy-ness yet serenity at the same time. The only thing I would change, and this is likely a bit of my OCD tendencies... is that it tilts a bit to the right, so the lines (which I like lots) are not as straight as they could be - as well as the numbers at bottom left.

mikeock (Mike Adams) added a critique 3 months ago:

Very cool shot.
This is done very well.

Beamer (Clyde Beamer) added a critique 3 months ago:

I love the colors and tones of this!! The composition is too busy and confusing to me. I want to see the numbers more and a little breathing room under them. The guy is nice but not really very present.

HuubL added a critique 3 months ago:

Great complementary colors and an interesting crop. Powerful image. I agree with Beamer about the silhouette of the man. Not that you could do much about it.

Very cool.
Rusty vehicle?

soreks (Fedor Soreks) added a critique 3 months ago:

A nice shot lacking shadows, contrast and texture in my eyes due to flat lighting.

narnold (Noah Arnold) added a critique 3 months ago:

I really love how you captured the different colors of the rust, I also like having the different squares in the picture! Very interesting photo, good job !

AmberDawn (Amber Sullivan) added a critique 3 months ago:

I like this a lot. The colors are amazing, I like the perspective and lines too. Great job!

Thanks Beamer. The original definitely has more punch - maybe too much, but I'll play with bringing out the greens a bit more. I really wanted to have an "old Florida" feel to it which is why I dialed the color down...

soreks (Fedor Soreks) added a critique 4 months ago:

Great scene, good capture; on a composition side, the 2 tilted stems break the perspective not allowing the eye to follow the waterscape. I agree to Clyde: lots of potential in the scene.

aloha_photo (Jeff Sisemoore) added a critique 4 months ago:

It could very well be my eyes, but the center portion of the photo, where the lighter tones are located, seems to be a bit out of focus to me. I agree with Clyde, too. I would definitely frequent this place, though. Lots of interest in the details.

boyd added a critique 4 months ago:

What I really like about this image is that there is so much detail for the eye to wander over, pause, and wander some more. I also like the processing treatment that you have used here to give it a vintage feel. Nice work.

op_perrin (Olivier Perrin) added a critique 4 months ago:

l'idée est bonne, le traitement original, mais je trouve la photo pas très lisible, tout ce mélange. J'aurais moins forcé sur le traitement. Si c'etait possible (ce qui est pas évident) plus de lumiere.
