I like the composition and the story being told here. Its very calming, reminds me of a lazy summer afternoon in the shade. I also like how the trees really help to frame the person and keep the eye coming back to that central idea. The thing that really stands out to me is the rocks in the lower right. While in some ways they mimic the person I find them too strong of a secondary idea and ends up competing for my attention. At first I actually thought it was the head of another person that was carelessly left in the frame. It would be nice to see if they could be cloned out or if the image could be cropped up from the bottom, though that could skew the nice composition of the person on the bottom third. Alternatively, adding a bit more rock might also work (though I like this idea less). I think part of issue is that they hint at more and keep pulling my eye out of the photo, like I want to figure out what is going on over there. More could have mitigated that. Over all though a very nice photo.

Beamer (Clyde Beamer) added a critique 3 months ago:

I'm not bothered by the rocks. I do think for this subject the camera angle is a little too low. I think you would have more impact if we saw a little more of the homeless man and his "bed." The higher angle would BTW, probably eliminate the rocks from the shot.

sbuzz (Samarth Bhasin) added a critique 3 months ago:

i do like the shot in general... i would remove the rocks and the top does seem very busy... as beamer suggested, a higher angle may have been more appropriate...or better still (and this is more difficult) getting closer to the mean but still keeping a low (or even lower) angle

I think this is a good shot, but i think the rocks take away from the main subject.

This shot creates a great feeling of space. I agree with needing a bit more sharpness of the mountains tho.

GarrettHall (Garrett Hall) added a critique 3 months ago:

I like this shot. I would crop 30% from the right side and 20% from the top. Then pull some more detail out of the hills so that we can see them layering on top of each other. I think that you can crop and still preserve the sense of space. Hope that helps. You have a great shot to work with.

the mountains catch my eye much better than the boat...i think perhaps focus more on that--the detail is great, esp in the distant one

I really like the feeling in this photo, it would fit in the empty spaces topic very well!

Thank you all for your comments! I appreciate all of the feedback.

This was a particularly foggy/hazy day in the mountains so that's why a lot of the detail is lost. I think it adds an almost surreal feeling to it, but agree that sharper details in the background would have been nice!

Wow! How lucky are you!!! Where is this? I have such a thing for a beautiful sky...but I usually only see them over the water...(crowded suburb living.)

Thanks! I'm in Denver, so the Rockies make a nice addition to the sunsets.

Nice colors. I guess it would look better if you crop a little more closer, removing the pink from the top. Also when you are this close, it should be sharp and with good details.

jvgphoto (jon van gilder) added a critique 9 months ago:

I like this one, but it is a little noisy for this kind of work, and Pradeep is right in his assessment of the shot, in my opinion. Beautiful light you have captured, however!

Best,
Jon

nattfodd (Alexandre Buisse) added a critique 8 months ago:

It looked great in the thumbnails but is unfortunately is not sharp enough and very noisy, especially in the lower left corner. It's a shame because light and colours are beautiful...

narnold (Noah Arnold) added a critique 8 months ago:

I agree with the above comments....it should be a little more sharp...but I still think the photo is beautiful!
