@ Beamer: A little of both. There was a lanai floor directly above me when I shot this, so I had an obstructed view of the building. I also cropped it a bit to eliminate the lanai floor. I agree that it is not the best presentation. In a later version I photoshopped the other half of the rainbow, which helps a bit with the awkwardness. Nice light here! I agree with Clyde. Not much to be done about the cropped building an rainbow, but it degrades the photo a bit. BTW, I looked at the PS-ed rainbow version and knowing that it wasn't there makes this one the better one for me.

Greatly seen and good coposition. Rainbow in an urban setting looks nice. Could be a little more sharp though.

Congratulation on the feature.

Cute child (I love the tongue hanging out of her mouth). The colors are good. The water drops seem a bit unusual to me, almost like drops of mercury rather than water. I think I would have liked to have seen them with more motion instead of freezing them is space. Interesting shot.

I love the action captured and the playfulness that's conveyed. I would maybe like to see more detail (less shadows) in her face. Well done!
Beamer (Clyde Beamer) added a critique 3 months ago:
Great moment, very well captured!! Love the stop motion of this. If I offered any critique it would be to have a bit more room at the bottom to give the had a little more breathing room. But, this is great the way it is.

This shot creates a great feeling of space. I agree with needing a bit more sharpness of the mountains tho.
GarrettHall (Garrett Hall) added a critique 3 months ago:
I like this shot. I would crop 30% from the right side and 20% from the top. Then pull some more detail out of the hills so that we can see them layering on top of each other. I think that you can crop and still preserve the sense of space. Hope that helps. You have a great shot to work with.
warreagle (Amy Warr) added a critique 3 months ago:
the mountains catch my eye much better than the boat...i think perhaps focus more on that--the detail is great, esp in the distant one
narnold (Noah Arnold) added a critique 3 months ago:
I really like the feeling in this photo, it would fit in the empty spaces topic very well!
blossompp3 said 3 months ago:
Thank you all for your comments! I appreciate all of the feedback.
This was a particularly foggy/hazy day in the mountains so that's why a lot of the detail is lost. I think it adds an almost surreal feeling to it, but agree that sharper details in the background would have been nice!

Beautiful flower. The lighting on the right is a little harsh and causing you to lose some detail.
boyd added a critique 3 months ago:
This is a very interesting subject, but I agree with blossompp3 that the highlights on the right are a little blown. The detail you have captured on the main section of the flower are very nicely exposed and have pleasing tones.

I really like the texture of this photo, can't add anything else that hasn't already been said! Great job!

What an interesting plant. A shade of some sort for the sun on the right would have been helpful as the others have said. What kind of plant is it? I have never seen that before!
snaps (Dana N) said 3 months ago:
Thanks AD. It's actually a baby banana plant/tree, and those are baby bananas ;)

Nice picture with a good exposure.
I appreciate water reflection.

Congratulations on a creating a great image, Olivier. You have controlled the exposure of this perfectly, and I really like the use of b&w to accent the detail.
GarrettHall (Garrett Hall) added a critique 3 months ago:
I like this photo, but I wish that it had some more contrast to it. The only black is in the dead center and the upper left rooftop. It just seems like a little tweak to the contrast is all it needs.

Excellent shot, nice processing... Congratulations.

It looks good to me. The processing is really nice. And the fact you can see the flies in the picture is actually quite amazing.

Yes, I agree that everything about this image feels "right". I too appreciate the sharpness you have achieved and the great tonal range to successfully pick out the subject. Well done.

This is a tough one to critique.
What do you mean by shading?
The only thing that distracts me a little is the shadow area on the leaf seems to be a bit to dark...
Other wise i think its great.
Wonderful tones!
narnold (Noah Arnold) said 3 months ago:
Thanks Mike! Sorry about shading, I wrote that in a hurry and didn't evn realize I had written shading, I mean the out of focus part around the leaf, I made it fuzzy on purpose and I was wondering if that enhance or took away from the photo....when I get a chance will try to lighten the shadows on the leaf, thanks for the comment!!
op_perrin (Olivier Perrin) added a critique 3 months ago:
j'aime la tonalité de cette photo, peut-être trop centré la feuille. Le haut de la feuille ne ressort pas assez. Pas facile avec l'effet que tu as choisi
blossompp3 added a critique 3 months ago:
Beautiful photo! I love the colors and the curling of the leaf. It has a very serene feeling.
kseniaC (ksenia) added a critique 3 months ago:
i think this photo is absolutely great!!
i love the colors and their tones.
and i just LOVE the definite shape of the leaf.
and i actually like that it is defined also by the darker shadows...becuase it is the subject and your eye is then immediately drawn to it.
looks great!

I thought these might be from the Southeast, they remind me of home in western Virginia. This is very nice, I like the depth and sense of peace. I wish you had included a little more foreground below the bottom of the fence.

It's just what I ment when I gave that another comment on photo #30848. I like this composition more, imo it's more balanced although the colours of the another one are more intense.

thought so Tamara. thanks for the input.

I like the reflections in the glasses - makes me curious about the story. I'm not sure about the shadows on the subject's face; maybe a little fill flash? (but that might interfere with the relections, so maybe not?)
sfkp (Tamara) added a critique 3 months ago:
I would crop it a lot, making it the eyes/sunglasses the main object. Just what blossompp3 said: the reflection is the most important. By doing some cropping, the rest of the face will be almost gone and of course, the shadows won't bother anymore.
Nice capture Jeff, I wonder if you cropped this to pano, or shot it this way. I ask, because the building and the rainbow being cutoff as they are feels restricted or awkward to me.
