Hello! I am a widowed senior from White Rock, British Columbia, Canada.
I have had a keen interest in photography for most of my life. Since I had a DSLR camera - I find myself aquiring many more photographs than ever I did on film!
I always wanted to achieve excellence in my photographic endeavours - staying up many nights until about 3-4am, developing and printing film, until I had a photo I could be proud of.
I read and read and read over again many photography how-to books and it paid off when I wanted to take a course in Studio Lighting. At the time I lived in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. I went off to the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology to enroll in the Portrait Lighting Course. To my dismay at the registrar's office I was told I had to have two pre-requisite courses in basic photography etc. I have never ever stuck my neck out like I did that day! I asked to see the head of the Camera Department and when told he was busy, I said I would wait. Anyway, the outcome of that was I had about a 45 minute interview with the Head, and I ended up enrolled in that course. It was very informative and hard work as we had to process our own photos to get them back in time for the next class. My teacher was really impressed with one of my shots in particular, on which I had modelled the lighting of my model similar to the lighting Josuf Karsch used on a photo of JFK. So I plucked up courage, mounted that photograph and a few more and sent them off to a National Exhibition in Canada. I could not afford to go to the exhibition at that time, so was absolutely ecstatic when six weeks later I received the Silver Medal in the Portrait Category and honorable mentions for the rest I had submitted. So, I thought I was on my way! However, family fortunes, and work situations made it impossible to continue, it was just too expensive.
It was just over a year since I got my Nikon DSLR, and it makes such a difference to the cost of pictures. No processing costs - and I already had Photoshop with which I processed my scanned photos. So I picked up my hobby again. And, I would still like to make a name for myself in the photo world. I can't hike up mountain trails any more with a bunch of camera equipment and lenses - but living in the lower mainland of Vancouver gives me access to many beautiful areas to photograph. Apart from my dear gentleman friend, and my family, photography is my greatest interest of all!
Hope you will enjoy my photographs!
