Oh man, she looks sweet! Adorable, really :) It can be minimalistic because of the relative small space she takes in this picture, though you could have strongened the effect by adding some white space on the left and on top (just open a new document in photoshop which is bigger than the picture, copy/paste end blur the spots that doesn't fit the white). But I love the picture the way it is now :)

Thanks Soyrosa. That's a good thought. I could set it to a neutral since around her isn't blown out either. Thanks!

It's a beautiful portrait of your niece. Nothing to be critical of from my point of view. Nice work Jason!

What a great shot! I love the way you have got a good focus on the fence and on that little bit of the background. Very well seen and captured.

such a good composition, so interesting, but I think that the center it's a little bit overexposed, but maybe is that what makes it more interesting, I don't know but it has something so atractive.
annabc (Anna Cameron) added a critique 1 year ago:
I see a triptych - and a very interesting one. I like the original image, which seems to have an oriental feel to it to me, and I think it is enhanced by the simple borders and the desaturation on the centre section. It inspires me to try something similar...
Lamdennison (Leigh-Anne Dennison) added a critique 1 year ago:
I like the concept, and think it would perhaps be a bit stronger if the colors fades to gray with the third panel being monochromatic. I think the tree - both as a strong vertical element and as a textured element - would be stronger in B/W and more dramatic than the rock and foliage (and the water that ends up appearing over exposed). Of course, that's just my opinion.

get a better motive.
mysight (Carl H. Sr.) said 1 year ago:
Well Pedro,I don't know what you are trying to say.
It is just a simple un-enhanced photo.
Better motive,a better reason to post a shot?
Blumie (Sabine) added a critique 1 year ago:
Well, yes, it looks different - another red - but in the most perfect light situation. I bet, when you have a knife like this, you have seen it in different lights in different colors. I am impressed by people, who do shots of unusal - or better very usual - things, making them look like a little supermodel. So for me it is a very good job.
mysight (Carl H. Sr.) said 1 year ago:
Wow,thank you Blumie!
I really appreciate your comment.
I know the focus is not the best,
but I just wanted to share my idea for Red.
I got this knife from my deceased buddy Ed Jett.
To me it is special.
Blumie (Sabine) added a critique 1 year ago:
For me this says a lot. When you are older than - lets say twenty - you already lost a special friend. Thats a sad, but very true thing. You have something, that reminds you of your friend, thats good. And now I know, why you have choosen this one to present it and why you have presented it in a very special way. Thanks for sharing that memory.

I thought this was a rose in the thumbnail! It makes a good abstract and your DOF is very effective. I love the blend of colours and the way that they interweave, giving highlights and shadows between them, particularly in the top right corner. My initial thought was that it was a little too unfeatured to hold the interest for long, but since I am still enjoying looking at it and following its twists and turns, I must have been wrong about that! The colour palette is lovely...

I have one more shot of this, with a slightly lower angle... I'll try to remember to post it tomorrow. Thanks for your input :)
effraie added a critique 1 year ago:
nice shot, meaningfull and well structured.
But imho, the pic would have much more impact if we could see a bit more of his face (maybe the eyes?) and if there were more space on top and left sides. the pic is a bit small for that man ^^"
annabc (Anna Cameron) added a critique 1 year ago:
Lots of atmosphere in this shot - well composed and thought out. I like the tight crop, but I do think that a little more of his face would have been good, particularly since the topic is Portrait of a Person. Maybe with the hands lower and the eyes staring unseeingly forwards? I like the yellow lettering behind him...
mjmilloy (M-J Milloy) added a critique 1 year ago:
Great shot, v. well posed and evocative. My one complaint is the skin tone - it looks cartoonish, almost, too much post-processing? I really like the detail and tone in the clothes, tho. I wonder what it'd look like b&w?
MMeye added a critique 1 year ago:
I was almost disappointed when reading that this was a posed shot.. there is so much emotion in this pic, so many things the viewer can imagine... It serves me right, next time I won't read the other comments before writing mine ;-)
Anyway, congratulations, this is a great shot !

What absolutely gorgeous colour and shape in these clouds. I love the way the bright spot in the centre is reflected across the incoming wave and the wet sand, and the way that those silhouetted rocks and the headland anchor the light. And I think it would have been even better if the horizon had been straight.

love the vivid blue and the innocence of childhood this portrays!
willie_901 (william) added a critique 1 year ago:
Based on all accepted academic and commerical definitions of minimalism, there is nothing minimalistic about this photo. However is is a simple image and the simple composition focuses our attention on the child at play. This is a great example of "less is more". The beautiful color (very well exposed) and the intensity of the child at play make this an interesting photo.
I think it would really benefit from an 8 X 10 crop as this would place more emphasis on the child. However, maybe the child is not the main subject you had in mind.
annabc (Anna Cameron) said 1 year ago:
Thank you very much for your thoughtful critique, Willie. I would be very interested in the definitions of minimalism that you mention - I hadn't really thought about it, I am ashamed to say!

The colors are quite glorious. This seems familiar. The setting of some duos perhaps? Or just a similar setting...

Thanks, Leigh-Anne. I haven't posted anything else on this site, although there are images with a similar setting on another site.

It's breathtaking the whole image but what I love most is this balcony in foreground because it gives even more perspective to the skyscape.
