Interesting subject. Never thing about it as a model for photo. I am agree with Scott about background!

Excellent shot, Anke. High marks for the composition and lighting. For me, the background works as is and is more interesting than a "properly" lit background would be.
Best,
jon

As a matter of fact I think the composition is not right. Correct it by a tighter crop and the photo will work well.

Just wanted to jump in and say that I like the composition. The weight of this feels just right to me.

For me it is a good shot, but i miss something more striking in the picture, maybe a crop a bit more out of center or a disturbing object.

I really like this shot. I think the contrast between the subject and background works well. Good job!

Thanks a lot for all your comments. It's interesting that your opinions vary so much.
This picture was taken at my parents' home, there's a window on the right side which couldn't be shaded. So it would have been impossible to get an even lighting of the background.

I wouldn't have noticed the variance in light until it was mentioned, and it makes sense. I love the simplicity of this image and that it makes me wonder about the rest of the room and what it may look like.

Definitely suits the topic. Lovely composition, we always have the tendency to try and center things but this is good offside. My only complaint would be the background, it's not consistent. Bright white on the bottom right and yellowish as you go over. The lighting was off a bit on this one. I wonder if using a fill flash might have helped? But nice imagination, always like the way people catch the things all around us.
