Well... no. Nice colors and a cool place to shoot but I can't get why to tilt. Only to fit the topic? Please.

Shay (Shay L) said 1 year ago:

I took this photo long before the topic ever existed. I tilted because I liked the tilt. I took several shots of it at different angles. It was different, and non-conventional.

that sign is awesome

Beamer (Clyde Beamer) said 1 year ago:

The sign is indeed quite cool. I wonder why you added the extreme vignette? It is quite distracting and unnatural looking.

Shay (Shay L) said 1 year ago:

I added the vignette because I like it and it flows with the processing I did on it and draws your eye in more to the sign.

I dont process for others, I process for me. But thank you for your opinion. I may keep it in mind next time.

Pradeep (Pradeep P) said 1 year ago:

Agree with Amy, an awesome sign, never seen one like that :)

Shay (Shay L) said 1 year ago:

Thanks! i've never seen one until that day...It ranks up there with warnings on coffee cups that the coffee is hot....

Nice up close detail. Do I detect Dr. Pepper in that bottle? He's got good taste!

Shay (Shay L) said 1 year ago:

Thanks!

That's actually RC. My husband loves RC Cola and she came up on the couch to see us....She loves anything sweet. We don't usually let her have anything that's not meant for a ferret, but this was too cute and we let her have enough to get the photo.

Animals just give us an endless list of things to photograph! Landscape doesn't change as readily, but animals are always on the move and when you can capture them like this, it always makes for a great photo!

Gorgeous clarity. I love it!

just incredible, great shot

Clyde,

My squirrel would KILL your squirrel - your shot is, however, more interesting than mine - I freely admit it. Think about deleting yours maybe!

Cheers,
Jon

Jon, i think this squirrel would beat your squirrel, this one is a jedi master :P

I believe the Black and White gives it a nostalgic look. Great job.

mikeock (Mike Adams) added a critique 2 years ago:

Very nice shot.
I do like the Black and white. It really seems fitting for this subject.
I do like the inclusion of the person as it adds a bit of perspective to how big the rides actually are.

Shay (Shay L) added a critique 2 years ago:

The black and white is great for this photo. I think if this had been done in color, it would have been too busy. Especially with having that person there.

photo24 (Sven H.) added a critique 2 years ago:

it doesnt need color. color version seen so many times. minor: they guy with the cam disturbs me a bit.

Hi Tracy. It is, however this was taken in a different building on the campus. Thanks.

Shay (Shay L) said 2 years ago:

I really like this shot. Black and white really suits this.

DaveMac (Dave MacIntyre) said 2 years ago:

Thank you Shay!

tzirlott (Tom Zirlott) said 2 years ago:

Great picture. Very rich in color, tone and texture. I do find that object / shape in the center of the floor a bit confusing. I cannot see enough detail to make it out. It keeps taking my focus.

DaveMac (Dave MacIntyre) said 2 years ago:

Thanks Tom. The shape in the centre is an old school bench. I'm not too sure what you mean by rich colour though?

I like it, and think it's a very interesting subject. I would never have thought of doing something like this.

But I do agree with uncommondepth about the background. The white from the marshmallow blends in with the white background too much. I might have used the burn tool in photoshop on the edeges of the marshmallow to make it pop a bit. I'm not very good at this criticism thing yet, so I hope I offered something decent.

taikrixel (thomas mueller) added a critique 2 years ago:

wow. breathtaking one! for me it's perfect.

weeneydog (Keith Johnson) added a critique 2 years ago:

I think this is a great shot for what it is, however I agree with uncommondepth, It has nothing to draw my interest to it, Maybe adding a child's hand or something would cure that. :0)

well all i can say is YUMMM!!! This shot makes me reach for a sugar fix! I think you did really well to capture the moment of impact.

Can you tell us more about how you did it?

neutralhills (Sean McCormick) added a critique 2 years ago:

What is the subject of this image? Is it the tree, the building, or the windmill. The composition doesn't make my eye snap to any one thing. The foreground is also too dark.

A good effort, but I (the viewer) am not seeing what the photographer saw in this scene -- it doesn't come across. I look forward to seeing a re-shoot. :-)

uncommondepth (Roberta Murray) added a critique 2 years ago:

I agree with neutrahills on the composition of this image. It is confusing what the focus of interest is. The trees in the foreground obscure the barn and windmill too much, if that was your focus. You should have tried moving in front of them, if possible, or trying the image from a different angle if it wasn't possible. Often a different angle creates more interest in an image than a straight on shot anyhow.

I really love seeing images of old barns and of windmills, so I think you've got a great subject here to work with. If the location is close enough to you I'd go and experiment some more. Try focusing in on both subjects individually. Also watch your exposure. This image has too much contrast between foreground and sky. You've lost the details in the building. Morning or evening may provide a softer light to help with that contrast. As would a cloudy day - which may also add some moodiness to the image to enhance the abandoned aspect of the building.

Another thing you could do to help pull the details out of the foreground is to play around with curves and masks in Photoshop (providing that's what you use for editing). There are lots of tutorials available online that explain the process. One of my favorite sites is Luminous Landscape.

Shay (Shay L) said 2 years ago:

Thanks a ton for the tips! If I can find this building again I will go try my hand at it this evening. If not, I'll play with something else.

Thanks for the link as well. I think that site is going to be a huge help!

weeneydog (Keith Johnson) added a critique 2 years ago:

I believe if you were to move to the left and bring the whole building in closer and to the center and brighten the foreground some this would be a good photo of an old farm. If you are able to re-shoot this I would do so and submit it again.

diezel99 added a critique 2 years ago:

I agree.....closer to the well tower from the agle and a little tighter would help this image.

I really love the tree on the left. Suggest cropping the image to square format to put the emphasis on the leftmost tree.

Shay (Shay L) added a critique 2 years ago:

I agree with neutral. The tree on the right is much brighter and is distracting.

diezel99 added a critique 2 years ago:

I agree, I find I lose my focal point and that would be the point.
