A very interesting image. Is this a total lunar eclipse?

Schmidi (Zoltán Schmidt) said 8 months ago:

Very moody and atmospheric capture - I like it. Interesting use of space in a photograph to be sure!

Best,
Jon

Schmidi (Zoltán Schmidt) added a critique 9 months ago:

Nice composition, you're right, it's the Saturn there. One thing that diturbs me, it's the sharpness/focus. Did you use autofocus, or tried to catch it manually?

mikeock (Mike Adams) said 9 months ago:

Schmidi,
I used the auto focus.
There was also a bit of haze which also caused problems with the focus!

koo88 added a critique 9 months ago:

I agree with the focus comments, but it is a hard thing to capture. I tried the other night when there was an eclipse but did not like my results. It is much better then my attempts.

mikeock (Mike Adams) said 9 months ago:

koo88,
Thanks for the comment.
Sorry that your pictures of the eclipse did not turn out.
I really had to try and try to get at least one photo to turn out from that series!
Keep on looking and capturing.
Practice is the only way to get better!

Nice shot, but I think I would like it even better if you hadn't cut the bottom. Perhaps with a little bit wider angle, leaving a narrow border in front of the animal.

klear added a critique 1 year ago:

This is nice because you don't usually see an animal like that in such a coastal shot. I don't mind that he's in the lower right corner.

paddlepunk (Holger Neu) added a critique 1 year ago:

the see looks strange, like taken with bad quality and and small size, then tried to make it bigger...

imagenature (Alexander Belokurov) said 1 year ago:

to paddlepunk: it is one picture, no montage... maybe bacause the see is out of focus or jpg comression on small preview?

jvgphoto (jon van gilder) added a critique 9 months ago:

Nice shot! Good subject - nice colors and interesting crop.
Best,
Jon

Very cool.
The composition of this is great.
I like the inclusion of the colors and the massive distance that they stretch across the image.
That one line is a bit distracting but that is not enough to ruin the image for me!

billbooz (Bill Booz) said 1 year ago:

This is great, folks, and thank you very much for the feedback! Hadn't thought of cropping the foreground grass, but now see what you all mean as I look at it with different eyes.

Laurie (Laurie) added a critique 1 year ago:

Sweet barn. I love barns.

The grass in the foreground doesn't bother me so much, maybe a bit less of it, but for me I think that the sky is so washed out that I would have framed it or cropped the sky out altogether.

I think that you could pull a little more contrast out of this as well.

There is a little something going on with the grass though. I am not sure what it is. It looks like a light, blurry smudge that runs from the center bottom and up toward the left lower area on the grass. Do you know what caused it? It almost looks like it could be some sort of reflection.

Onepixelshy (Mike) added a critique 1 year ago:

I think this picture has great potential. IMHO it might be a good idea to crop a a little of the sky out and move the barn to the left and down (rule of thirds sweet spot perhaps) and bump up the contrast. Or maybe a little selected saturation. Those are just some suggestions. Keep up the great work.

jvgphoto (jon van gilder) added a critique 10 months ago:

Very nice work - I agree with Laurie in regards to the sky, however. Beautiful piece of country!

Yes, you're right with the colors, but it was a cloudy day, it even started to rain 10 minutes after this picture. I didnt't have any idea how to make it better...

mikeock (Mike Adams) added a critique 1 year ago:

Great take on the theme.
I agree that everything looks muted but i do like the composition!

paddlepunk (Holger Neu) added a critique 1 year ago:

well... there could be better contrasts, it looks a bit foggy^^ quite easy with post processing ;)

photo24 (Sven H.) added a critique 1 year ago:

contrast !
hard time to identify the topic. but you had an eye for the interesting beach shape ! if its not done from a helicopter, try to redo it.

jvgphoto (jon van gilder) added a critique 10 months ago:

Sven is right, of course. Lovely view and composition anyway!

soreks (Fedor Soreks) added a critique 1 year ago:

The power line alone would add to the feeling of abandonment. However, with that antenna on the roof and the wires from it to the home the feeling of abandonment diminishes. So that antenna is a distraction is in my eyes.

Otherwise, great colors and composition.

mikeock (Mike Adams) added a critique 1 year ago:

Very cool .
Great composition, leading the eye and having multiple elements that show you the abandoned state of this!

Schmidi (Zoltán Schmidt) added a critique 1 year ago:

Somehow, I'm missing the right side of the building, if you have a landscape version of this building, you might post it as well, to compare the two compositions.

paddlepunk (Holger Neu) added a critique 1 year ago:

the colors are very good there is nothing to say, good pic

Sonoma added a critique 11 months ago:

Love it. Great color and clarity. Really captures the topic.

I like the background. It would be a great shot... without the people. Sorry, I do not like their position and poses.

Schmidi (Zoltán Schmidt) added a critique 1 year ago:

I think it would be good, but with the ship next to them, and not behind them.

Pixim (Eric) added a critique 1 year ago:

Beautiful colors obtained; concerning the composition, an obvious criticism is the cut of the metal structure in top, on the left. That misses to us to finish our reading of the image. Moreover, the trees in the content take much place. Perhaps desired in order to carry out an opposition enters human nature and constructions?
Always it is, that the construction of the image does not satisfy me fully.
On the other hand, the use of the light is suitable, and makes the sculpture metal in a seizing way. See you with your next photograph.

Schmidi (Zoltán Schmidt) added a critique 1 year ago:

I agree Pixim, the colors are fine, but the cropped structure is disturbing for me.

Eye_See added a critique 1 year ago:

Interesting subject matter. I'm not bothered about the trees but I would crop the photo so that the top left metal work is not half off of the picture. You'd have two loops left showing and there would not be the small piece of the third loop showing.

Laurie (Laurie) said 1 year ago:

I meant to say drag the background layer to the "create new layer" icon at the bottom of the layers palette, which will create a background copy. Sorry if I was unclear.

Schmidi (Zoltán Schmidt) said 1 year ago:

Laurie, thanks for explaining it, I think more of us can use it in the future :)

mikeock (Mike Adams) said 1 year ago:

Very cool tutorial.
Will have to add that to my back o' tricks!

Thanks a-lot for the suggestion!

KerriDoodle (Kerri) said 1 year ago:

I agree that this version is much better than the first - I like the change in contrast and it helped plump up the colors.

I understand Laurie's suggestion, but hers feels a little too dark for me. Perhaps someplace in between the two.

mikeock (Mike Adams) said 1 year ago:

KerriDoodle,
I agree w\ your statement that it should be somewhere in between. To me the last version looks a bit dark.
