from today :-)

Ooooh... shiny. Great light. Very crisp quality, too. Thumbs up!

Bastian (Bastian Löhrer) added a critique 1 year ago:

Awesome composition too.

philippe (Philippe Reichert) added a critique 1 year ago:

Do you really need to request a critic? :o)))
I love the tones, sharpness and the way the back of the car fades into the black... It seems there's someone behind the door but I can't be sure. Is this digital?

VernonTrent (Vernon Trent) said 1 year ago:

yes, it's digital.
equipment used: canon 350d with 50mm and hensel flash porties.
my model is laying in the car. you see one of her boots in the window and one at the bottom :-)

my critique requests = credits for others who really need to release the pics for critique and I'm always glad to hear/read your opinion (I'm not perfect :-))

I LOVE this picture! It's amazing! :) :) I'd give you kudos if they existed. Great shot!

Vernon, I have a question about equipment, if you don't mind me asking you this here: which lenses would you advise for a Nikon D2X (I have the 24-120mm, but I want to upgrade my gear)?

Sher (Sher Hilliard) added a critique 1 year ago:

Ok Vernon...since no one else can find anything to critique... I'll just have to try.

I'd like to see this photo with the fluorescent light fixture cropped out of the right top corner. There appears to light reflected on the car front and door from other light sources and I don't think the one shown in the photo is necessary.

Really, I'm just trying to find something to critique. Your photos are always wonderful.

lbstone (Brandon Stone) added a critique 1 year ago:

I totally didn't see the feet, so this might be a helpful critique... If you had more light on them, it would make them more visible. (Maybe some people understood that they were feet, but I missed it.)

The human element really improves on an already solid photo. Now that I see the feet, I'd like them to be more clear. (Not that I'm complaining at all.) ;)

Bastian (Bastian Löhrer) added a critique 1 year ago:

I actually liked the fluorescent light fixture when I first looked at the photograph. I'm not sure anymore, now.

VernonTrent (Vernon Trent) said 1 year ago:

thanks for all your feedback :)

for the light at the top right. this is an element which is necessary for the composition. it gives a hint where the car is. on the other hand, was needed to keep the slight green hue (fluorescent light / white balance) and without this light, you won't see the boot at the bottom (the reflections)

the feet implementation is like it is. a surpize with a question. not identifiable at the first sight and if, then with a question: "what's that?" :-)
so this should keep the beholder longer than 1 minute looking at the picture :-)

@philippe
the lens choice always depends of what you want to shoot.
my everyday lens is a 17-50 2.8, sometimes just the 50mm 1.8
when I'm traveling, I use the 10-22 as well.

last week I had a wedding shooting with 24-70 L 2.8 on one cam and 70-300 DO IS on other cam. enough focal lenght for every subject, from group pic to candid sniper shot :-) was fun to be a paparazzi :-)

philippe (Philippe Reichert) added a critique 1 year ago:

Thanks, Vernon.

I can tell you that "the feet trick" works: I spent more than one minute looking at it... :o)

psychodudu (Andrew Parker) added a critique 1 year ago:

I think this photo is a ery commercial one. It's seemingly well thought out and lighted accordingly (you are, after all, a pro, Vern!). I presume the feet, the green exit light, are elements you wish to keep, but the lighting from the right seems to me to be far too strong, did you use flash units? Other than that my only crit is that it's mundane and unexciting on my screen at home, so I think it suffers from being shown on that medium. The setting is just not dramatic enough. There I spilled my guts and made an idiot of myself all, at once!

psychodudu (Andrew Parker) added a critique 1 year ago:

I presume you either did this for fun, or there is something not quite right with the image, you just can't put your finger on. Close...lol?

VernonTrent (Vernon Trent) said 1 year ago:

@andrew
just fun and relationship-work to my models :)

Sher (Sher Hilliard) added a critique 1 year ago:

Thanks for explaining the need for the light. I still feel it draws my eye more than it should but I understand now why it is necessary.

mosesport (Moses) added a critique 1 year ago:

I still don't see feet.

I love how this "multiple topic tracking" works :-)

Beautiful lights and contrast. i love the lights reflected in the body.

Now that is a great shot. I can actually smell the oil, the leather trim.
