This might be architectural detail but it's the sky that I love. Reminds me of a plane taking off.

You know..I've seen Vernon's self-portraits...and I have to agree with Andrew...this could be Vernon as a wolf/dog. And thats a compliment Vernon!
Lovely photo, great detail.
Sher (Sher Hilliard) said 1 year ago:
I have to agree with my husband, this is a sexy version of Vernon. Excellent photo, great detail, lovely work. Yeah my husband even agrees with me now...i knew he would eventually! (My hubby is Rob Hilliard.)

It was a brightly lit full moon night - just saw the wolf. Is it really you, Vernon? Thanks for not biting me.

When I saw that you had begun the cemetaries topic, I had been waiting to see this one again! Great shot, fantastic processing (as usual).

Awesome colors and great texture on the wall! The contrast betwenn the straight horizontal lines of the wall and the curves lines of the car (?) are a good eye-catcher!
zenith9 (Bob and Jeannie) said 1 year ago:
There are many things i really like about this - the positioning and vibrancy of the colours, the dark shadows and blisters of paint. It is often difficult to spot this sort of thing from a distance, well done.
philippe (Philippe Reichert) said 1 year ago:
Thank you. This photo is quite old: the car is a 2CV...

I like this one a lot brandon! Think the grain is just perfect for this kind of photo. Great choice of coloring, too.

This reminds me of a sci-fi 1930's Utopia gone wrong! Quite an arresting image. The only thing I might say is the single cloud trail going up to the left seems slightly at odds with the rest of the image.
odon (Odon Dias) said 1 year ago:
Yeah, a bit futuristic and retro, at the same time. Like Captain Sky and The World of Tomorrow. Great angle and scenery, good noise effect on the sky. Just a bit grainy than the buildings, some balance is ok.
Great image, indeed.

As far as your portrait, Vernon, great capture. Really stands out from the rest of the self-portraits. There is a common theme to most of them (the camera, partial face crop, a reflection, etc.), but yours is really solid. Well done!
SUBJEKTIV (Sigrid Kleinecke & Kurt Tutschek) said 1 year ago:
absolutely classic shot. great self portrait, vernon.

forgingahead (Bob Foss) said 1 year ago:
Regarding Jason's comment, I would argue that the topic asked for "Creative ways to photograph yourself." While this photograph is up to Vernon's well documented standard as a superb portrait and high quality photograph ... I am not sure it rises to the level of being superbly creative. I think that people are trying all of the gimmicks Jason notes in an attempt to be creative (key word, "attempt"). (I should note that I am not in any way maligning Vernon's creativity...he has more in his little toe than I do in my whole body)
byutanner (Jason Tanner) said 1 year ago:
Bob I do see what you mean. You have a good point.
VernonTrent (Vernon Trent) said 1 year ago:
thanks for all your kind comments,
this sone is just a simple one, no gimmicks, no special fx... just a simple and friendly one with an expression you would get when I oppen my door at home. :-)

jseligman (J Seligman) added a critique 1 year ago:
For me the whole minimal idea is very appealing, and I like the angle of the face. However, the eye color looks very unnatural and makes the photo look cheap and a little weird.
jsmanseau added a critique 1 year ago:
I like the angle of the face, however I would do a bit less with the processing on the eyes especially. Maybe see a bit more of the face next time?
Sher (Sher Hilliard) added a critique 1 year ago:
I differ from everyone else who has commented. I think this is great. I like the subject, the processing, the vivid colors. I enjoy photos that 'dare to be different' and I think you've done a great job. Very nice photo.
mysight (Carl H. Sr.) added a critique 1 year ago:
Do you have some other versions of this
AWESOME take on 'portrait of a person'?
I would be interested to see the steps
you took to get this image.
psychodudu (Andrew Parker) added a critique 1 year ago:
Black an White might be also interesting to see, it may give it a more dramatic look.

"I've been in this business for fifteen years. If people have a problem and don't wanna talk to the police, they wanna talk to me."
As have been mentioned, you really feel a detective short story vibe here. Great lighting. Personally I really like that the right eye is barely visible, but still hidden.
beautiful - very dynamic image.
