not much to critize here, well exposed shot, the sky looks beautiful, the building is well framed...a bit less of the building and more of the sky would have worked better FOR ME.
uncommondepth (Roberta Murray) added a critique 1 year ago:
The weight of the building and sky are almost equal, which for me causes some confusion over the focus of the image. If the subject was the sky make it take up slightly more of the frame. If the subject is the building, make IT take up more of the frame.
The sky and clouds are beautiful, so I could easily see that being the focus. However, the building is also beautiful. The building lacks a little of that pop of the sky though. I think if you'd lightened the building slightly, and then increased the saturation and contrast it would have more 'pop'.
charmarie (Char) added a critique 1 year ago:
I looked at this picture last night and really was not sure what to critique of anything however uncommondepth basically said it in my opinion the sky and building are equal balance because I tended to focus on the sky and i don't believe this was the intended focus (but I'm not sure). The building I really enjoy with the contrast.
phocrastinating (Prasanth V) added a critique 11 months ago:
This is a nice composition, I'd try to bring out more detail from the building though without washing out the sky. The sky is perfect.

like this a lot. great use of textures. and the coloring is perfect.
pfeel (Phil Verges) said 1 year ago:
I agree, the texture really adds something special to this shot, though even without it it's a great image.
Pi-Production (Eric Rousset) said 1 year ago:
I like the gradient blue and of course the texture as well, are u working with Photoshop ?
aepoc (Jason Kessenich) said 1 year ago:
The texture of this is very interesting to me. I can safely say that I wouldn't have put it over this image, but I don't exactly know why. You made it work. The color, the contrast.. composition. It all just works. This should be up on a wall with a beautiful frame, in many, many places. Well done. I have a new favorite.

I also like that he's not looking directly at the camera. I wish both eyes were in focus, but everything else is great.

Hah... I'm not complaining at all (I have nothing against Photoshop in this context)... I'm just sharing thoughts... and I definitely enjoy when images cause discussion like this. ;)
The giveaway for me (aside from the lack of reflection that Eggplant mentioned) was the source of the light... The light on the animal seems very clean and directional (coming in from the upper-left), but the light on the window seems like it was coming from a different direction or was maybe diffused through some light clouds. And there would probably be a shadow on the tip of the nose, since it's inside the dark room a bit.
I also think the "fuzz" on the chin looks somewhat cropped... In real life it might stick out a little and overlap with the background more.
I definitely give it marks for sense of humor. Good stuff.

(BTW, I didn't mean to leave out Beckn32, who also mentioned the reflection.)

@lbstone - thanks a lot for taking the time and pointing out all the things i forgot to take care of while composing this picture. i appreciate that kind of constructive criticism a lot!

humerous - Donkey is way too large for the window though....

Great job, Jason!
I wonder why the b/w, though. Maybe because of the textures in the lighthouse?
SeekingFocus (Jason Langley) said 1 year ago:
Hi Phil,
I had two cameras with me that night, one color, and one black and white (film). So, it was really just the luck of the draw I guess that this one ended up black and white...
Thanks for your comments!

Very nice. I wonder if we can do a 17 min exposure with out haveing any amp glow problems and noise. Excellent shot.

I love this photo, the stars look awesome! The lighthouse is very sharp and I cant really find anything to complain about.

i like the composition a lot. it's quite dramatic. a bit more contrast in the cladding would have been nice. but it's a really interesting image.
