an awesome long exposure-very detailed and very crisp-well done

chromaticmelody (Dhiren Bhatia) added a critique 1 year ago:

Definately well done, probably a redundant comment seeing as i try not to read above comments. I love the perspective you've got here. And lighting looks really nice.

anatoliy (Anatoliy) added a critique 1 year ago:

I think shot is very professional, excellent exposition, I like foreground and how shutter used.

jbloch75 (Jeff Bloch) said 1 year ago:

Thanks for all the kind comments.

bbonner (Bonner Photographic) added a critique 1 year ago:

You use DOF well - visually there is so much going on I just don't know where to look.

It's nice pic, but for me the dark part (left) doesn't wor for me sorry...

willie_901 (william) added a critique 1 year ago:

I like the combination of light and dark in this photo. The yin/yang thing really works here.

veronicalynne (veronica lynne) said 1 year ago:

I thank you for the critiques. On my monitor at home the clouds still have definition even though they are dark. I did however, notice that when I viewed the photo on the monitor at work, the clouds on the far left were almost totally black. ??? Color correction on monitors is so important.

aperture (Suvir Venkataraman) added a critique 1 year ago:

Very germane photo, but the yellow part towards the bottom does not work with the darker blue (middle right), in my opinion.

bulletproofheeb (Adam) added a critique 1 year ago:

I like the colour contrast but agree about the yellow. You might want to drop the yellow channel and perhaps saturate the blue just a tad to cover it up.

a bit more of the lower section of the flower would be sick.

anatoliy (Anatoliy) added a critique 1 year ago:

It's perfect. Like fire burning or lamp light.

owenhaberf (Owen Haberfield) said 1 year ago:

Thanks everyone :-) Quite a varied response, which is always good.

Laurie (Laurie) added a critique 1 year ago:

Beautiful. I agree about perhaps a little lighter on the lower part of the flower.

Topher (Christopher Mueller) added a critique 1 year ago:

I actually like the light in this and the inclusion of (mostly) only the petals. I think this would be even better with wider DOF so I can see all of the petals.

If anything, I'd almost like to see even less inclusion of the bottom portion of the flower?

I would LOVE some teaching Eric...I am always open to learning!

Pi-Production (Eric Rousset) said 1 year ago:

Ohh that's cool like me Sher !!

aperture (Suvir Venkataraman) added a critique 1 year ago:

Where was it taken? A shallower DOF might have given it an even more dream like quality.

Pi-Production (Eric Rousset) said 1 year ago:

At Coonoor in India. For the "Dreamy effect"I tried a light "Orton effect" and it's not too bad I think, I tried even more but render is really bad..
Thanks for comments Suvir :)

Hey hey thanks schupin ;))

jbloch75 (Jeff Bloch) added a critique 1 year ago:

This is a great shot. Great processing for this topic. If the modern boat wasn't in the shot... you couldn't know the shot was recent. I could easily see this shot selling in stores. Well done.

Pi-Production (Eric Rousset) said 1 year ago:

Many thanks ibloch75 for ur comment.

kamaki (Christophe) added a critique 1 year ago:

Nice shoot as usual. Only comment: what a pity for the modern cutter/boat !! the picture seams too be taken last past century....

guffy (Stefan Karlstrom) added a critique 1 year ago:

Good photo but something more needs to be in focus. Now basically everything is out of focus. Just add like 5% more in focus and it will be brilliant.

willie_901 (william) added a critique 1 year ago:

The composition is attractive. I agree with the others about the color cast and the DOF being way too shallow.

erinelizzybeth (Erin) added a critique 1 year ago:

Great picture. I agree with the others, it would be better whiter and then it would be better more focused as well. But it's still a great picture.

gregcsmith (Greg Smith) said 1 year ago:

Thanks again for the comments. I am going to post one more time in this topic with a shot from the same shoot. Hopefully it will go down a bit better than this one.

AndreiMorar (Andrei Morar) added a critique 1 year ago:

Interesting composition, love the blur but I would have preferred to have more in focus. That way my eyes would find a resting point in the photo.

Sorry for me it's too blurry, maybe less it would be ok ;)

psychodudu (Andrew Parker) added a critique 1 year ago:

Dude, this would be much better in black and white. I think the white of the fretboard and the keys at the top would stand out better and you could mask some of the unwanted stuff by going mono. Bit tooooo much movement though overall.

jaapv added a critique 1 year ago:

Dynamism is expressed. But at least one part of the photo should be sharp, preferably the face.

Peasap (Paul) added a critique 1 year ago:

Nice idea, although slow sync flash would have made this a better shot. It is too blurry for me also. What are the vertical white marks? They need to be removed.

kadenajack (Jack) said 1 year ago:

@ Peasap - I'm not sure which white marks you're referring to. The ones in front of the guitar are probably a reflection off of the microphone stand, which I think he bumped right when I snapped this. The ones down by his leg come from a chain he had hanging off of his belt.

Thanks for the comments folks. It seems I may be too close to this image to objectively see it. I know exactly what is what, but clearly from your reaction that's only because I was there, since the rest of you aren't seeing it as clearly. Your assessments are fair and show me that I need to remove myself further to make sure the photo says what I want it to. I opened way too wide to embrace the blur here.

good point. i guess it deviates from the "big city" skyline-themed shots.

Paulforrester (Paul Forrester) added a critique 1 year ago:

despite the above above-i like the perspective of this shot-well done!

iko (Olivier Petit) added a critique 1 year ago:

there's a nice vibes going out this shot. I like the ethereal view of one building compared to the other.

mrsankey (Andrew Sankey) added a critique 1 year ago:

I really like this shot. It does exactly what you said, it deviates from the conventional skyline type shot with a unique perspective.

delphE (delphinE Le Berre) added a critique 1 year ago:

I love that, I'd like to see it B&W, but the framing is really great !

I'm the first and I think not the last to say
Great photo, I like the "bud flower" and of course the drop water.Well done Laurie

Laurie (Laurie) said 1 year ago:

I actually uploaded the wrong version of this shot. I had a "cleaner" one but didn't notice that the wrong one was up until a little while ago.

I had thought about cropping out the bud, but ultimately liked the bud being included. I'm glad you agreed. Thanks.

Blumie (Sabine) added a critique 1 year ago:

It is very beautiful. The flower looks a bit tired, but I think, thats what you want us to see. Or?

Laurie (Laurie) said 1 year ago:

Blumie...thank you. Yes it is tired. It was taken immediately following a day of heavy rain and the flower was soggy and heavy with water. It is a white hibiscus.

Jenseye (Jen) added a critique 1 year ago:

Lovely flower Laurie! I like both versions : )
