Wow seems like such a trite word to use - but it works

I would like to you to say that that one the best photo am which I ever saw

Large complement

agi500 (John Agoncillo) said 1 year ago:

Beautiful.

dontpanic said 1 year ago:

excellent use of the lens, and nice off-centre framing. Maybe if the silhouette had been sharper instead of the light bleed....

thoughtdujour (thought du jour) said 1 year ago:

the styling reminds me of something that I would see perhaps in a Nat. Geo magazine...

Steve Cherry
It was Kodak Tmax 3200 film and New Year's Eve.
I didn't cut the right side, because i like the light on the background, showing the 'fogginess' of the snowfall.

PThree - I actually like the graininess of the pic :)

doilyboy (Martin Grey Gottlieb) added a critique 1 year ago:

Dmitry,
I agree with the grain. WOrks really well. BUt I also agree with Steve about the crop. To me, the light on the right is distracting and the snow is very visible with the light on the left. Eithe way, I like the image.

elijah (Greg Carrick) added a critique 1 year ago:

no, don't crop. you need the street light in the right, with a bit of space around it like it is.
good shot

xLeave (Boris Dozorets) added a critique 1 year ago:

i like it so much. really in the topic

Perhaps when Brandon offers the before/after features I will upload some other versions. You know when you get tired of looking at a photo? This is one of those for me :) Thanks for the kind comment though. Good to see that it is still getting views.

gregcsmith (Greg Smith) added a critique 1 year ago:

I have to agree with BioLarzen...;-) Excellent shot.

PThree (Pascal Christ) added a critique 1 year ago:

Wonderful!!! He looks unbelievably

duncmc (Duncan McMillan) added a critique 1 year ago:

Congrats on the feature Jamie. Well deserved.

psychodudu (Andrew Parker) added a critique 1 year ago:

This is a little too "warts an all" in terms of lighting. A little retouching wouldn't go amiss. It's a cheeky little image though, and is deserving of it's feature status.

I love the shot
I would have change the shadows color on the left of his face, it's too blue to me.
For this image, I would featured!

PThree (Pascal Christ) added a critique 1 year ago:

The color`s!!! perfect

jeninja-inja (Jenine Lindeque) said 1 year ago:

fanx delphine and pascal! I actually took this picture with a blue-ish white balance, and after i played around with the saturation i found this grade. As an after thought i said maybe its too blue, but i decided i liked it in the end!

Rainybeet (John Bonner) added a critique 1 year ago:

I like the color on his face, but with such a bright background and cloth on his head it would help to have some more light on his face, as Andrei mentioned. A very low power diffused flash could work, or another reflector directly in front of him.

jeninja-inja (Jenine Lindeque) said 1 year ago:

fanx!

Maybe with more contrast, grey is a bit too smouth.
Good compo.

Sher (Sher Hilliard) said 1 year ago:

Thank you aldamir.

bbonner (Bonner Photographic) added a critique 1 year ago:

Contrast is a subjective adjustment that can really help the mood you wish to convey in the image. ArneG's version is much more interesting I think based on the expression in the eyes. It also works because you have an unshaven male with a bold expression on his face. The same would not hold true for a female face with a softer expression. One thing you should always look for in making a monochrome image is to have a black and white and all the grays in between. That is where I would start. From there, you can add or remove contrast to fit the mood you are trying to create with the image. I would suggest you download Picasa from google and just play around with their settings. Once can learn lots just by playing with the programs and images you already have. radiantvista has some great tutorials though to take you further.

Sher (Sher Hilliard) said 1 year ago:

Thank you for your advice and critique bbonner. I am learning and your comments are appreciated.

PThree (Pascal Christ) added a critique 1 year ago:

Definitely a good composition.

Thanks for your comments, everyone.

Topher (Christopher Mueller) added a critique 1 year ago:

Personally I like the composition w/o crop. I like some empty space, particularly if the subject isn't looking directly into the camera. What seems like backlighting really adds to the contrast. Nice!

PThree (Pascal Christ) added a critique 1 year ago:

OK i think a good idea and a good work! but why u ar doesn`t make the background more darkly ! but noce shot!

Laurie (Laurie) added a critique 1 year ago:

The tones are absolutely perfect. This is really very pretty. I like the crop because of the lace in the gown.

duncmc (Duncan McMillan) added a critique 1 year ago:

Very pretty image. I also like the lace detail on the dress. I would be tempted to burn in the shadow areas of the bouquet, just to give a bit more contrast to the flower details. Getting really picky maybe the green flower stems (top left) are a little distracting.

dontbrandme (S) added a critique 1 year ago:

Not a critique, but my bouquet is going to look something similar to that but I'm having creamy colored hydrangea as the main flower in it and the rosey/creamy roses strewn about with the stephanotis! 4 months, I'm excited can't you tell? ;)

PThree (Pascal Christ) added a critique 1 year ago:

i think here is the pic not finish

bslomovic (Brant Slomovic) added a critique 1 year ago:

To me this is a near perfect image. I probably wouldn't have picked up the halo that uncommondepth's keen eye picked up, but now that I see it...
The detail and sharpness of this photo is terrific as is the processing of the sky. What really makes it for me though is the perspective and the (wide)angle you have used. Just fantastic!

lbstone (Brandon Stone) added a critique 1 year ago:

This is a very strong image. I didn't notice the halo either, but now it bothers me, heh. Before seeing that I couldn't find anything to complain about at all.

You should really be proud of this one.

elijah (Greg Carrick) added a critique 1 year ago:

beuatifully comped with the cloud above the train

thoughtdujour (thought du jour) added a critique 1 year ago:

kevincrafts (Kevin Crafts) added a critique 1 year ago:

I like the composition ok but I'm not wild about the colors. I don't like the green very much.

jsmanseau added a critique 1 year ago:

This would be interesting to see in B&W. Not a huge fan of the colors, but the composition is good.

miniTotoro (Natalie) added a critique 1 year ago:

That's wild. Reminds me of Star Trek. Kinda nebulous. I like the details in the clouds and the different layers.

duncmc (Duncan McMillan) added a critique 1 year ago:

I concur with above. Great composition and lighting. The aspect ration is unusual which adds interest. The texture in the clouds is good too. But those colours are not to my taste at all. If it's not an intentional Photoshop effect, then it looks to me like some weird white balancing artefact.

PThree (Pascal Christ) added a critique 1 year ago:

I think here is the color select not right ...
