How did you get this one? Great capture. Love the gold fields. Well done. Best, jon

sealgmg2 (Scott Niquette) said 11 months ago:

Striking image. It jumped off the thumbnail page at me and I had to see it full size. Wonderful composition.

I had the same thought in regards to that dark tree - hate messing about with nature sometimes:-)

Best,
Jon

jellybino (Robyn Shaw) added a critique 11 months ago:

This is a great picture! I don't mind the dark tree so much. Nature is imperfect and beautiful at the same time.

burlesot (Todd Burleson) added a critique 11 months ago:

I enjoy this image a lot. I like the warmth of he colors and the sharp contrast of the snow.

narnold (Noah Arnold) added a critique 10 months ago:

I love the contrast of the white snow and the yellow leafes...beautiful shot...I agree with the comments above...the scene seems very realistic...some each one of us could experience...great job!

Nothing is sharply focused here - maybe it's my monitor... no wait... one bottle is kind of focused. The highlights are blown in the foreground - the bokeh is cut almost in half at the top of the photo - very distracting. Now that I think about it, isn't this kind of blue?

I like the blur and the inclusion of the building in the background. Nice one.

chromadreams (David) said 10 months ago:

I agree at all with aloha, the detail is so great

reddave (David Parrish) said 10 months ago:

I love this shot, the shallow depth of field works perfectly

lolly (lolly smits) said 10 months ago:

i think it is a very good picture, a good excersice of depth of field!. nice!

JeBeKe (Jan Verbeke) added a critique 10 months ago:

This is a nice example of how far one can go with DOF playing. I follow Brian's remark about the 'just lightly more in focus'.

jvgphoto (jon van gilder) added a critique 10 months ago:

Nick,

This is an interesting and good attempt, but your focal point, in my opinion, needs to be slightly larger. What is your subject? What are you trying to say with this shot?

Best,
Jon

Nick (Nick) said 10 months ago:

@Thank for the comments. This was an exercise in shallow DOF. At the same time I was trying to measure min focus distance. This was shot using a Canon 17-85 lens @85 and f5.6 (wide open). I used an everyday artifact to help me measure.

smucha (shannon mucha) added a critique 10 months ago:

Great exercise & DOF.

I like the composition - different, but effective. It pulls you up and into the photograph. Thanks for sharing.

JaviNavarro (Javier Navarro) added a critique 11 months ago:

Beautiful and magnificient.
It makes you feel little :)

photoaholic (Geoffrey Reynertz) added a critique 11 months ago:

nice shot but the differents elements in the bottom of it are a bit disturbing perhaps crop a little

grahambo (Graham Siebe) added a critique 11 months ago:

I like the composition.

I would have pushed the curve a little harder - more 's' shaped. Think about putting the steepest part of the 's' where you want the most contrast. It would also let you darken the dark areas (which might help address Geoffrey's concerns) and/or brighten the image a little.

Heavenly.

Very cool composition. not in focus. Perhaps there was not enough light for your camera to get such a contrast of light and dark all in focus. I have that problem. But great use of color.

This is an amazing shot - once in a lifetime. Wonderful job. Here's a stupid question - what is WS that people are referring too? Link, anyone? Thanks!

nattfodd (Alexandre Buisse) added a critique 11 months ago:

@Kerri: it's weeklyshot (www.weeklyshot.org), the ancestor of vazaar. It closed just one week ago.

(Clapping) I love this B&W! So alone! I love the footprint trailing on the edge. Nice shot!

Great use of value and contrast to create a flowing composition.

Great DOF and clarity in focus. It would be fun to fucus in and crop out certain areas for separate photos, there's so much going on in this photo.
