I agree that this is a very impressive shot for all the reasons given above. I think that it is wise of you not to be tempted to crop too tight and leave the space for the scene to be set. Nicely done.

Great Great picture , the fog and the trees in the back ground. Looks like im in a dream looking at this shot. :)

Very nice image. I love the fog.

A very interesting photo. Just to imagine the story behind it, as if it were a movie still frame, is engaging. The photo really draws you into itself. Nicely done.

I like the haze and the mistiness of this photo. Nice work.

i like this shot, the colour is very pleasant much more than if it were white

Great shot!
I agree with Kerri and wonder if lowering the camera all the way to the floor might have helped?
Still a fave, though!

I was up on a hill when I took this shot, and to get lower, I would have had to of gone closer (and traipsed through 2 feet of snow)

I like the detail and composition. In a perfect world, the sky would be more interesting, but if you waited for that surely the birds would be elsewhere.
Beamer (Clyde Beamer) said 11 months ago:
@Nick, surely. This was taken this past weekend just outside Joshua Tree NP in California. We were staying is a cabin there and these guys were up on this joshua tree every morning. The air was very dry and the sky very clear all weekend. I actually like the clarity of the sky as a nice counter to the busy detail of the tree. I think it really sets this off nicely.
Thanks guys for the comments.

Definitely prefer this over your other drag shot. This one is much more effective at catching the sense of speed, wheras the other one seems more about the heat and the atmosphere.

Clyde,
Nice capture and great use of horizontals! I actually prefer the other shot - it communicates more to the viewer, in my opinion.
Best,
Jon
Beamer (Clyde Beamer) said 10 months ago:
@Heath, I like this one better too. Interesting difference, here the car is actually warming up the tires by deliberately spinning them causing the smoke. He is only moving 50 or 60mph. In the other shot, they are down the track 2/3 of the quarter mile and probably traveling close to 300mph!!
Here I purposely shot for motion blur by shooting in shutter priority with a very low shutter speed 1/15. Probably too low but I was experimenting to get the effect. This image is pretty well overexposed. I was able to pull this out in the raw converter.
Nick (Nick) added a critique 10 months ago:
I like the feeling of power and motion. Nice!
Jordan (Jordan Young) added a critique 10 months ago:
It must be extremely difficult to photograph drag cars (insanely fast!). Considering this I think you have a great capture here. I wish the body of the car itself was a bit less blurry, but that would likely be difficult to achieve without a monopod or something (which can be difficult to smuggle into a track without a media pass :) ) All in all, a great capture.
Regards,
Jordan

What a rush to be in the right place at the right time. This light is every photog's dream. This almost looks like a painting. Very nice. Is this a collapsed building?

Thanks, Nick, but why do you like it better? :~D
Nick (Nick) said 11 months ago:
The colors seem flat to me.
lolly (lolly smits) said 10 months ago:
Well, I guess, the colours look flat because we are in drought; otherwise, it's pretty well spot-on! I too like the B+W version as it brightens the detail and, to me, gives that sense of heat, but not quite shimmering. Thanks for your feedback, Nick! :~D

Saludos
flipthom added a critique 11 months ago:
I think this image has some real potential. I'm going to have to agree with Nick on the details. I think I'd prefer more or less. In this case, there are some beautiful reflections on that water so it might've been nice to focus on bringing those out and making the girl more of a silhouette. I also find the plants a bit distracting but they're thin and could easily be handled with a few clicks in Photoshop.
crahan (Thomas Bouve) added a critique 11 months ago:
You have a very nice composition and silhouette here (especially with the reflections under the legs), but the blacks are too gray for me. For this type of image I prefer darker grays to blacks for the subject.

You are really submitting a lot or work lately! This is good, but not as good as it might be - the above comments are very helpful, in my opinion. I love the reflecting light in the foreground - amazing!

Uno de los atractivos que tienen para mi los B*Ns son las posibilidades de contrastes,en este caso creo que no estan suficientemente explotadas, creo que en uno u otro sentido admite un poco mas fuerza. Saludos.
TooMagic added a critique 11 months ago:
I sort of like the mottled treatment but think that there's too much. The blurred (screened) processing on the sky and water overpowers the lighthouse. If the picture was cropped to just the lighthouse, then I think the image would be complimented by the processing instead of overpowering it.
jvgphoto (jon van gilder) added a critique 11 months ago:
Interesting and strong composition, but the noise problem is great - I'm sure it was by design, but doesn't work for me.
Best,
Jon
