Maybe a different angle and a closer shot would give it more of a dramatic feel.

This is such a sad photo, it would also fit to "shot with a story." I see so many things in this, feel the history of this horse. I like it, it impresses me.

The horse gets lost proportionally, both in terms of composition and (subsequently) contextually. The best thing to do would have been ot pull the horse toward the front of the room, and have it be the primary subject by placing it in the foreground.
The shot seems quite grainy - might that be noise from shooting with a high ISO? In this case your subjects are stationary, so you should have used a longer exposure - you would have needed a tri-pod, or something simple to place the camera on. Even the floor, propped upward by your shoe or that piece of wood laying on the floor.
I would have also preferred a slightly different angle, allowing us to see the stairs slightly from the side. The straight lines lack creative tension, and the diagonal of the stairs might have helped.
Never be afraid to work a scene, or to take your time. I have found that to be the hardest discipline. And shooting digital allows us to take a shot over and over until we get it right.

I like this as is. The "horse" at this distance gives the feeling of solitude to me - a lost toy, a hopeful toy, waiting for someone new to discover it in this large empty space. To me, a shot closer in would take away the feeling of aloneness or solitude. I personally wouldnt change anything.

I'm glad to hear that people see the solitude & sadness of the horse and how it was left. The horse is where I found it, facing the steps like it wanted to get out of this huge lonely basement. There is no way I was going to move it for a photo, for that is the way I found it and what made it interesting in the first place. I think to 'set it up' would take away from the original idea.
I think the stairs at an angle is a good idea and I tried this for the shot but with all of the columns it made it difficult to get both the stairs, emptiness & the horse together.

Yeah, I agree with the rest here. This shot shows a side of solitary and portrays a story or some sort. I like how the place seems abandoned and suddenly there's a horse out of nowhere. Haa. I guess a shot at a different angle would portray something better? Just a suggestion but great picture though

I like this urban feeling, but could be better comp.

For a construction project I came across this rocking horse which was the only thing sitting in the basement of a huge old abandoned building downtown. It had a creepy feeling sitting over by the steps. I wanted to capture that feeling but I don't think I pulled it off. I'm wondering what I could have done different. Lighting is from the make-shift fluorescent fixtures fastened to the structure above.
